My main computer (cpu) is dying.. a slow but noisey death......

the dilemna......replace only the cpu or go for an all-in-one? (If so [either way] which one?) :noidea:

What do you think of this deal?

HP Pavilion p6-2100 Desktop PC | Staples®

I'm not a gamer....I surf, have a bookkeeping program and use microsoft office (word, exel, etc.) in limited spurts.....okay, do some photo stuff now and then....yes deGriz, I used the word spurts.

I heard rumors of March being a "computer" month....I also heard rumors of Maker's Mark running out of stock on the East Coast....and cats running a muck. :yikes:

Is it possible it's just your fan dying? Mine got VERY noisy a couple of months ago, I could hear it in the next room LOL. I fixed it with some oil using the tips on this website:

Fix noisy computer fans with a drop of oil | Processors | ZDNet UK
If this is the problem, it's an easy and cheap fix.

It's definitely fan noise. I'll look into the website later, thanks, however it's been very slow as well and does not always like to cooperate, much like my children.

I had the same problems with my computer. I thought I would have to get a new computer too. I fixed the noisy fan with the oil, and fixed the slow-to-respond by upgrading the memory card, also an easy fix, $30 at Best Buy. It made an amazing difference. You might try that too!

(Now, if only fixing your children was that easy.....)

That's not a bad deal considering it has a 1TB hard drive. The only thing that would kill it for me is the 1-year warranty. Other than that, excellent price!

Thanks Spaz, I bit. I also added this HP S2031 20" Widescreen LCD Monitor | Staples® used a $25 off $100 and a free duffle bag coupon and....went through Mr. Rebates.....and used my Amex for additional $$ back. Phew!

I will try the oil fix once the new one comes in and after I transfer some files/programs. I also (with Spaz's help) a few months ago increased memory which did help a lot but now I'm getting slow and tempermental again. I'm just afraid it'll crash at the most inconvenient time and I'll lose lots of stuff.

A while back, one of the dvd drives stopped working too.

Thanks for your help.:girlhi:

You're welcome! Hope it all works out for you! :)

I've been too busy to take the comupter out of the box....

It still sounds like I'm making scrambled eggs here....:nonod:
