Many local bike shops are incompetent. I've been a hard core road rider/amateur racer/distance tourist for over 20 years.

The last bike I bought with a Fit Kit fitting was a disaster - totally wrong measurements. I wound up fixing everything myself. Fortunately they got the frame size right (only because I knew sizing from before Fit Kitting. ) Wrong stem length, clip angles, seat height. Made no sense.

This shop was not the exception. I've encountered incompetence in 4 out of 5 shops. I've been lied to , stalled, yelled at once, and constantly ripped off. Screw bike shops.

You are much better off learning about bicycles from bike mags/webs and then buying off the web.
