This might be in the conspiracy theory type of arena, but I listen to this guy “visionvictory” from Youtube.

He pretty much nailed Dow Jones/S&P last year before the collapse. He said it would hit 7-8000 and it did

Now he’s saying Dow 4000 by Feb 2010

For the system to collapse that badly, that would mean almost everyone on TV including Obama to be really wrong and it’ll be very hard to gain confidence after it.

If I had to bet on one side, I’d bet that it wouldn’t happen, but would hate to repeat the same mistake as last year :(

Unfortunately, I think he's right and I hope he is proved wrong, for our sakes.

What they have tried to do with all this spending and stimulus has dug us deeper.

The car clunker, dug us even deeper. And now I hear they are talking about a refrigerator clunker deal. I wish they'd stop giving away our money and creating more debt for us. :(

The clunker is keepiong people working. You can't save for your kids future if you're not working. People working pay income tax and pay more sales tax because they are spending money. I do not believe these programs are really creating much debt. Right now we need to keep people working.

But the clunkers are/were still working vehicles (mostly). Not everyone who brought in a clunker to take advantage of this program has an issue of getting to work because of their vehicle.

The premise of the clunker is a 'green thing' for the environment, not to get people to work. If it was to help the 'poor/working poor'....why destroy all the cars? Is there an income level, salary requirement? Why not refurbish them or donate them to the 'poor' (who have nothing) to fix so they can find a job? Why? Because the program was designed to 'get America green'.....nothing about it was to 'help people get to work'.:ohwell:

It wasn't all about the "green thing". It helped put auto workers back on the line and helped clear out quite a bit of the excess car inventory that's been sitting around. The program did quite a bit to help with stability in the auto industry.

Don't get me wrong, I'm not a big fan of the program. I think the money would have been better spent elsewhere. I do think the program ended up having a small net-positive effect though (and since I was pretty cynical about it, that was a pleasant surprise.)
