Anyone ever been diagnosed with "dry eye syndrome" ?? - I'm meaning beyond the type that you can just stick some eye drops in and be ok with it. I just found out a relative of mine has it (due to hormonal changes) and has been absolutely miserable for the past several months. She's been to specialists to no avail so far. If anyone has any personal success stories with this, please share, as I'd like to be able to help her. Thanks.

 If she were miserable enough to be crying all the time.....would she still be afflicted? :hmmmm: Just saying......perhaps she might benefit from being more miserable....:noidea:

The hormone changes have dried up her tears...I think she has been crying...and it's not helping. They plugged her tear ducts recently, in an attempt to keep the tears there, so maybe that will help. I feel so bad for her. Apparently she wakes up with her eyelids practically sealed to her eyeballs...they're that dry.

Unfortunately the drops that are on the market do not help too much.. Mine is from a combination of too large of ducts, hormone changes and med. reactions... I tried the plugs but they just fell out.. they don't make them large enough.. so they cauterized my ducts closed. boy was that fun.
systane are the best drops I've found.. use them repeatedly thru the day...flood eyes before bed & 1st thing when get up..
do not sleep with fans on in the bedroom... if you absolutely have to make sure they are aimed at you feet.. far away from you face.. if you run the air conditioning fairly regularly think about getting a vaporizer.. they really help.. I keep 2 going in winter and run them in the summer if I have the air on very much..
I tried the ointment at night but didn't like it.its really sticky when it dries : (
I've been thinking of getting one of those eye masks.. not what it's intended for but it would reduce air flow around the eyes which speeds up drying.
watch use of antihistimines and diuretics... they really make it bad...
