Hello, just wondering if there's anyone else out there who is seeing this issue with DVD X Copy Express..

I'm using a TDK 8x Indi Internal dvd burner with this software. I've "backed up" tons of dvds but lately the software is acting a little weird.
I put the dvd to be backed up into the drive.
I hit read. It "reads" the dvd for at least an hour. Software prompts me for a blank dvd. The software appears to be doing it's usual thing and is "writing" the dvd. This process usually took 1 hour 20 minutes when it worked but now it's taking maybe just an hour. At the end, it tells me that the dvd was made successfully and spits it out. I put the dvd back into the pc to make sure everythings alright and...THE DVD IS BLANK!

I know the makers of this software (321 Studios) recently got in trouble for selling DVD X Copy and I think they're no longer selling it on their website because I tried to do an update and the website was gone...
Would appreciate any feedback anyone had about this....

I'm retarded and haven't yet gotten the hang of it.

I put the dvd to be backed up in.
I hit backup on DVD Shrink, right?
It "encodes" for awhile. After this point, it's saved onto my hard drive, right?
When I choose backup, do I have to make sure it's saved as a ISO file? I've gotten some errors about there not being enough space on my Dvd. I'm just so used to DVD X Copy's simple use. DER. lol.

Am I right when I say that Shrink can't be used alone and it must be used with dvd burning software like Nero or Roxio?

You can use Nero or any other burning program that burns ISO files and it'll work fine.

Open up DVD Shrink and open the DVD. Edit what you'd like to take out to preserve video quality and once you've fine tuned it to your liking, go ahead and back it up. Save the ISO file somewhere on your hard drive. Once it's finished, open up Nero and hit Recorder -> Burn Image, locate the ISO file, and burn.

Some options that DVD Shrink gives you is to deep scan the DVD which scans it before encoding to ensure complete quality, region free encoding, and others. Scroll through the options to really get a hang of it. It's pretty easy and fast though.

Let me know if you have any more questions.

Thank you so very much, Erik, I will give it a try tonight now that I know what I'm doing!

No problem, hope all goes well! :)

Erik!

Hi Erik..
I did exactly what you said and ran into something great.
After I choose the make my backup an ISO file I get the encoding box and then after 30 seconds I get this error:
DVD Shrink encountered an error and cannot continue.

Copy Protection Error

The request could not be performed because of an I/O error.

I'm trying to backup Dawn of the Dead 2004. Possible this is only with this specific movie? I'm going to try another one...wish me luck!

wow its amazing what you can find on the internet. I found a forum all about DVD Shrink. Apparently tons of people are getting the same error I was. I'm trying some workarounds now...

Interesting, I haven't tried backing up that DVD, but I've never had a problem like that with any other DVDs. DVD Shrink is normally able to get through all the protection. I've used it on discs that "prevent duplication in any way" as well.
