Re: "anyone knows if their rebate's reliable?"

I've ordered kingston compact flash cards from Ecost.com before. These had rebates with them too. I purchased these two items on the same receipt, then submitted 2 copies of the rebate form, the original packing slip and UPC's. About 9 weeks later, I received my checks.

I think Newegg has the exact same one for the same price.

Here are some good deals on compact flash and secure digital cards.

Compact Flash - Kingston 1GB for $74.99 - $25 Rebate = $49.99
Secure Digital - Viking 512mb for $56.04 - $25 Rebate = $31.04
Secure DIgital - Kingston 256mb for $22 - $15 Rebate = $7.00

Same price, but Newegg shipping costs $2.99 for one, $5.98 for two

You're right, Newegg.com does have the kingston 256 mb secure digital card (Item# N82E16820160023) for the same price, with the same $15 rebate per card (limit of two for this rebate) that will end today, Sept 30, 2004.

However, shipping is not free with Newegg - it's $2.99 for one card, and $5.98 for two with the least expensive shipping method I could find (FedEx Express Saver). They also charge tax, just like Buy.com does.

I'd rather pay $2.99 shipping than do business with buy.com considering how many problems I have had with them. Tax is only applied in CA,TN, PR and NJ.

I ordered one the other day for my sister and the final price was $24.99 -$15 rebate = $9.99.

I got a Viking 128MB Secure Digital card from Buy.Com for $15.99 after rebate. That was on 6/24/2004 I ordered it. I turned in the rebate about that time, and just got the $20.00 rebate back last week. So I'd say it took about 10 weeks to get the rebate. Kinda long but it came through so I'm happy.

I got my order from buy.com today and noticed that the shipping slip doesn't have order date on it and it just show ship date which is (10/01/04) and not valid for the rebate. I couldn't find any date that's valid for that $15 rebate. I think thats a trap.

That's OK. Don't use the packing slip. Buy.Com should have E-mailed you a receipt at the time you placed the order. That is what I sent in, and they accepted it just fine.

Hope that helps!

Hello,

Today, I called the Kingston Technologies Customer Service Center (1-866-782-5606) and was able to speak with Rachel.

I described your problem to her & she said as long as it was ORDERED OR PURCHASED by the rebate expiration date, you should receive your rebate.

She said you can send in a print-out of your RECEIPT showing your order date, together with your rebate materials (packing slip, UPC, & rebate form). The receipt from BUY.com should have been emailed to you (it has "THIS IS YOUR RECEIPT" written on the top). She emphasized that you should NOT send in an "order confirmation" from them because this wouldn't work. Also, make sure to send in everything within 30 after you purchased your item.

I'd circle the order/purchase date on the receipt and include a note that tells them to look at that date & not the ship date on the packing slip...and be sure to keep a copy of EVERYTHING.

Hope this helps!

In case you want to check the status of your rebate, you can go to www.rebatestatus.com and look it up. Their customer service dept. can be contacted from this website too.

Last night, I asked about Myanmarguy's shipping date/rebate issue, and here's the reply from their online customer service department online (they responded in less than 24 hrs).

In response to your inquiry <<#328329-361737#>>
Dear Consumer:

Thank you for your recent inquiry. As long as the date on the receipt is within the rebate time frame, you would still be eligible. Please verify, however, that you meet the postmark requirement time-frame.

Let us know if you have any further questions

Thank you for contacting rebatestatus.com.
