got one of these
When I saw this deal, I was highly skeptical to say the least. A good quality 6 string acoustic normally runs from $500 to $2000. At least an American made one does. How could this Chinese instrument possibly be anything but a toy?
However there are 100's of solid reviews on this model out on the 'net and they are 90% positive. I ordered one. :convinced:
Pretty much everyone says the finish is excellent, the fretting is very good and the sound is great. :note:
The complaints are the action is high, especially the high E string, and the stock Martin strings aren't very good. Some folks are saying the intonation drifts from the 8th fret upwards. Well, strings are easily replaced and the action can be tweaked with a little basic Luthier skills.
Looks like the pins, saddle and nut are cheap plastic, but take heart as you can buy some nice bone/ivory replacements on that Musicians Friend site. Look at their line of GraphicTech replacement parts. With a little precision filing of the nut/saddle and/or truss adjustment you should be able to get the action and intonation improved on this baby.
Also, the tuning pegs seem to be decent but need some oiling and working in to really shine. Do it.
I would never do this kind of work on say a $2000 Martin but on a $50 beater? Well, lets just say I can't wait to get my hands on this baby.
If anyone would like to read about how to do this work
