I purchased the 512 Mb Sandisk Cruzer Micro from Amazon.com. I right click on the drive in 'My Computer' and select 'properties' to look at the capacity. WinXP says it has 499 Mb or 523,993,088 bytes to be exact. I thought it was suppose to be 512 Mb. Is the drive suppose to be like that or is something wrong with mine?

There are two issues going on that is giving you the different size in windows. 1st is that a little of the space automatically gets taken up by the file system. 2nd is the way storage equipment is sold and the way it actually is.

When you look at a HD, lets say a 20 Gig drive. The manufacture sells it as a 20Gig drive, but it will report less than that. The manufacture uses 1000Kbytes = 1 Meg, but in actuality the computer uses 1024K = 1 Meg. So if you do the calculation you can see there is a difference in what is sold vs what the real device can hold. Manufactures have been doing this since day one and I doubt they will ever change.

If you don't see a deal, you should take a look @ when the thread was originally started. In this case it was started on 8/3/04. Most deals are only for a short time.
