There is no support for DVD-R/RW, which makes this less hot.
 
I was reading on some other deal websites about having the two $30MIR. Basically put, someone called sony about the two rebates and they said that they will be cross checking the rebates to make sure that no one tries to send in both rebates. They also said that sending in both rebates could invalidate both. So try this at your own risk!

As far as the DVD-R goes, this drive also does -R. Here are the true specs:

Go to sonystyle link and read the specs closer. It does burn -R and -RW. I already have this drive at home and love it.

Not true. Why would you say that? Most of my friends and I prefer DVD-R even though speed is sacrificed. The PS2 backups also play better on DVD-R media.

I'd still take NEC over this one from newegg and pay a bit extra without rebates. Don't get me worng, I like Sony, and have one of their earlier drives, but specs on NEC ND-3540A are much better. Also, it's very cheap now with FREE shipping. See the link here

I also hope you guys know that this drive is packaged by Sony but not made by it....Sony have not been making their own optical drives for some time now. Just something to consider... :zip:

Who cares. It's $20. If it lasts you a year and dies it doesn't owe you anything.
 
I was just making sure that people (not me) who do care about buying name brand products for the sake of brand name are aware of that fact :secret:
