I am currently looking for the a new dvd burner saw some good one from newegg but still want to make sure between liteon and nec which one is better, because they both support dual (or double) layer. I was thinking about the nec or liteon both for 8x with dual layer. do you guys think its good??? or you guys think its better for other brand. Also do you guys think dual layer is necessary??? I know the D9 media still expansive but if I can choose its always good to live up to the newest standard right? One more thing which one of these drive have a better function, performance and endurance? I use to have a liteon and it never give me any trouble except one time when I am too lazy and push the cd in (instead of press the button) and the drive got stuck and ........... So I got a new one from the stupid cendyne but it doesn't even last for three month, the cendyne can burn some cd at a really slow speed but those CD cannot be read by any of the drive even the cendyne itself......... So I from now on I just want to go with the brand stuff. Please help me out Spoofeese.

I bought the NEC 2510 (DL) drive from newegg a few months ago. So far, I have no complaints. I have burned several CD-R's, 3 data DVD's, 2 DVD movies with no issues whatsoever. I haven't burned a DL yet but I have no doubt that it'll do just fine.

NEC has my vote so far....

Good luck....

The NEC's are probably going to be a little cheaper.

Lite-On is the king of CD-R drives in my opinion. I'd never buy a CDRW that wasn't Lite-On.

However, I have an NEC ND-1300A 4x multiformat DVD drive that I picked up for $33 shipped and it has been great to me. No coasters so far, and it's reliable and fast.

So I guess NEC gets my vote also.

I got the NEC 2500A a few months ago, flashed the firmware to make it a 2510 (so it can burn dual layer when the media prices enter a range with some sanity), also unlocked its rip speed. I am very happy with the drive. I have burned everything from old 1x Princo whitetop DVD-Rs at 2x to 8x Optodisc discs with no issues at all... it is also an amazingly quiet drive if that matters to you. From the research I did, it looked like the NEC drives were the top of the line as far as compatibility with media, quality of burns, etc.

give me a final decision here, the liteon and nec is the same price in newegg but the liteon is retail

NEC all the way for DVD drives. I have a ND-1100a and a ND-2500 both are great writers. Okay readers, but I use a separate dvd drive for reading.

I bought the OEM and used freeware to burn DVD's, (DVD Decrypter, DVD Shrink). I already had Nero so I still use it to burn CD's.

I'd say save a few bucks, get the OEM and use the free software.
