For those that bought Guitar Hero 3 for the Wii - Potential Profit

If you bought a Guitar Hero 3 for the Nintendo Wii

Here's the link to the general offer to exchange your disc or get a $132 refund due to the mono discs shipped with the Wii.

Here's the link to the $132 refund offer. To clarify you have to return the guitar, strap and disc to Activision and once received, they will give you the $132 refund to cover the cost of the game plus estimated shipping. The benefit of this is you buy a new non-mono version for $70 or $80 and then send your old one back for the refund, so you never have to stop playing. LOL

Here's the link to register for a disc exchange. The problem with this is you won't be able to play GH3 while waiting for your replacement since Activision won't give you the new disc until they receive the old one.

Here's a link to Activision's support page showing the website and general offer.

:worry: is it wrong if I go out and buy one used on craigslist or something and mail it in? :worry:

Not if you hurry up and buy it before someone else does. ;)

Not anymore wrong than using multiple email addresses to obtain good freebies!;) :p

So is anyone here actually having any difficulties w/ the disk? The reason I ask is I'm not sure if the new problem I have is a system error  or game/disk error.
There seems to be a slight lag in the music and it remains even after I callobrate it.
Oh and I doubt this is the case, but there ia a minute possibility that it could be a "butty" error. :34: :hmm:

Thanks Big Daddy for the tip.

Does anyone know whether Activation will actually check the disk for audio problems? I read one of the links above and it just says you can return the whole thing for $132 refund period. It doesn't say it'll reject your return if they see nothing wrong (ie. mono) with the CD.

If this is truly the case I can see a bunch of people buying GHIII until 8/31/08 (refund deadline) and returning it to Activision for a quick profit. (Yeah it's still rare to find one of these and you won't be playing it but still, that's at least $40 in your pocket should you choose to return it.)

Here's a question...Are all of the discs sold bad? Or just some? And if just some, how do you know if yours is or not?

All the discs only have mono sound, not stereo, that is why they are "recalling". I knew that when I bought it, but all the reviews said you really couldn't tell the difference.

I believe all the discs are "bad".

As b2mje112 said the discs aren't necessarily bad. They just play in mono and so many people complained about it that Activision did something about it because they didn't want their billion dollar gravy train to stop.

Plus in Activision's press release they said "some "butty" error could be involved".

how much is the usual shipping charge? i bought it for 95 (including tax)...so if i do this: 132-95 = 37 for shipping. Will shipping be less than 37?

Also, does anyone know when the bundle with 2 guitars comes out? Cuz this offer means I can buy the 2 guitar bundle and return my 1 guitar bundle.

They suggest UPS 3 day...not much of a profit if you use this method. It's about $40 for a 10lb package.

So how exactly do you find out if you have one of the old discs or not. I bought my copy at toys-r-us about 2 weeks ago.

ALL discs are bad. They only play mono. You need to exchange it with Activision. No good discs are sold in stores yet.

Is that true? I just bought one from Circuit City with a $10 coupon I had thinking this was going to be a replacement for the one I'm returning.

Oh well. I guess my mother-in-law will have to return the new one to Activision for me.

i think mono is back befor they had stereo so all the same sounds come from the same speakers i think

From Activision Support Website dated April 10, 2008
Activision's re-mastered disc of Guitar Hero® III: Legends of Rock for the Wii with improved audio output should now be in broad distribution to retailers nationwide. Therefore, if you purchase a copy of Guitar Hero® III: Legends of Rock for the Wii in April or any later month, and the box contains the Dolby Pro Logic II logo then there is a very high likelihood that it is the re-mastered game.

However, to distinguish the re-mastered version from the original, Activision has placed a star above the Activision logo on the front label of the game disc. If you are unsure as to whether or not your game has Dolby Pro Logic II audio capabilities, please click here to see a photo of the re-master disc label.

If you have purchased Guitar Hero® III: Legends of Rock for the Wii and determine that you have an original disc and not the re-mastered version and you have not been able to enjoy the full audio output of Dolby Pro Logic II on the Wii version, Activision is offering consumers free replacement discs. If you are experiencing audio issues with your game and would like a replacement disc, please log onto to www.activisiongameexchange.com.

Activision and RedOctane thank you for your continued support.
