Earthlink is offering free WiFi in Milpitas, Anaheim, New Orleans and Philadelphia.

1. Check your laptop's list of available networks. If the Feather network SSID (network ID) is on the list, switch to it.
2. Open your Web browser. You'll automatically be sent to a page where you can sign up for an access pass, or connect to a Feather Nest hotspot (not available in all cities).

Please note that if you live in these cities and the network is not presently available to you, you may be a part of the future coverage areas. I live in a suburb of Anaheim and the network is not accessible to me yet. Keep checking back like I will be!

I suggested this to my parents who live in Center City Philadelphia. They have a router that I need to go over and hook up but this could get them online for now on the laptop (they are still using their old desktop pending connectivity).

The speed is comparable to DSL speeds. I passed through Anaheim twice on a train this past fall and got pretty decent speeds. I was in service range for only a few minutes each pass through, though.
