Most salons participate in this, if you are in the market for a MAJOR trim of 10 inches of hair or more, you can get a free haircut! Call your salon in advance to see if they participate in the "Locks of Love" program, I plan to have 12 inches of my hair cut the day before my birthday and the salon told me it was free if I donated the hair to Locks of Love, a program that sends your hair to a company that will make a wig for a child with cancer. I did this about 4 years ago and had 2 feet of hair chopped and sent to Locks of Love, I will do it before my birthday as a way to give, my greatest love is giving, it is much more fun than getting, and how simple can it be? Chop off all this hair, get a free cut, and give to a child, it doesn't get any better!:bigok:

Thanks. I was just thinking about getting my hair cut & donating it, now I have another great reason to do so, a free haircut! My daughter wants to donate her hair as well, but she only has about 7-8 inches to cut. Does anyone know of any place that accepts the shorter lengths? Thanks for a great post!

I done this the last time I got my hair cut ty for the post

You are so right, there is nothing better than helping a kid. :)

That is so true!! I only wish I had more than 9 inches. Guess I will have to wait another month or so.

Yea, I wish I had 9 inches also. My hair is barely to my shoulders.

I do this once every 3 or 4 years. I haven't paid for a hair cut in forever! They love my "virgin" never been dyed, blow-dried, or permed hair. And I agree, what a great cause!! :claps:

My 9-year old daughter just had her hair cut for donation (about 8 inches) to Pantene's Beautiful Lengths Program. It must be at least 8 inches for donation. Visit their website - www.beautifullengths.com for all the details and instructions! It's such a wonderful cause - she was just beaming to be able to help another child in need!

Our family hairstylist is a HUGE fan of the Beautiful Lengths program and my daughter is currently growing her hair to be long enough for a donation. Our stylist is less of a fan of Locks of Love because according to her, they charge clients to purchase the wigs and they sell a considerable amount of the hair to customers for extensions, weaves, etc. despite claims to the contrary. She apparently started looking into it after a few clients came in with their "purchased" hair from L of L for her to do their extensions, etc.. I have not looked into her claims myself but she has proved to be a very reliable woman so we are heeding her request and going with Beautiful Lengths. My research into Beautiful Lenghts has so far turned up only positives.

I donated my hair last May.
Great idea to post this for those who did not know.

Please look into this carefully before deciding to donate your hair. My husband had researched Locks of Love a couple years ago, since he knows eventually all that long beautiful hair of his is going to go. Anyways, he was upset to learn that Locks of Love sells the hair it receives. Do you want your hair to go to a kid in need, or do you want it sold for a profit?

I cut mine when my Dad passed from cancer and sent it to Locks of Love. I was charged full price for the haircut. Depends on the Salon, some particpate, some don't. Thanks

I have donated to Locks twice, once 13 inches and the last time 10. My daughter just donated to the Pantene program 10 inches. She grew her hair long enough just to donate it.

Just went and got my hair cut at a Great Clips. They measured it after they cut it and it was 18 inches. Wonder if I would get 2 free hair cuts if I had donated 20 inches. Got it cut to my shoulders, you wouldn't believe how much better it feels not to have all that hair.

Feel selfish but for the first time I've gotten my hair to grow to my waist lol usually I get overheated during the summer and chop it all off, so I still might since it's only May and has been sooooooo hot but hoping I don't, I'd like to see just how much longer I can grow it out. Am sure this info will come in handy one of these days though as sooner or later I'm going to want to whack it all off again, well not all since I like it to at least my shoulders and LOL promised hubby when I turned 40 that I wouldn't cut my hair short like so many women do after 40. I actually understand why they do am sure it's totally due to hot flashes!!!!:mmph:

My husband didn't want me to cut it, but I just couldn't handle another summer of heat and tangles. I cut it in 2004 to my shoulders. It will grow out again, but I don't plan on waiting another 4 years to cut it. I just turned 42 and I think I looked older with it long. They cut off alot of the gray.

I feel loads better after my haircut, that thing they cut off looked like a dead rat, LOL! It felt like one too! I usually get my hair cut every 2-3 years for this, but I think I am leaving it short this time, after 4 kids and 3 stepkids, I deserve to let my hair be short, forget what my hubby wants, it's my head! LOL
