Pleasenote that their "basic" annual service plan is $120.00 per year ("premium" plan is $360.00 per year). My guess is that you won't get any online support, downloads, knowledge base, fixes, etc. like you get with Microsoft Windows without paying for the annual support. Hence, you get the system for free, but it probably won't be useful to you without paying out big bucks constantly (other than for curiousity's sake). It possibly could be great for the right businesses, but for the average person at home, I don't think it is worth it. I hope I am wrong. I hope others will investigate and find out if you can use it in a dual boot configuration with Windows XP (then it probably be worth the download). LET US KNOW!

I will give it a try since it is free..
As far as I know, Sun OS is used as server for some simulation software and special application like circuit design and more.. The reason I would try is I want to know how it looks and I've an extra machine and get a chance to learn solaris flavoe :)
But I would prefer to use Linux (Slackware) for regular use. If you prefer unix there is OpenBSD.
Both are Open source and more software than Solaris.
Just my 2 cents..

Lucky for me, my school provides Sun for us :-D
The OS isn't bad, worth a try if nothing else.

This is the best OS as far as stability and reliability are concerned. Some of the largest corporations in the world use SunOS. It is a Unix system (like linux but not as friendly) It has just an insane amount of support out there in groups, web pages, and other resources. patches at sun can be downloade for free.

Does anyone know if this version supports multiple processors? Solaris has always been free for single processor systems...

in the past Solaris was free for several cpus... might be the same for Solaris 10. I read this release of Solaris is open source...
