I would love to start a chat on all the frugal ways to save $$. I can start by listing a few that I use. I would love to hear yours.

1. Dove or any other disposable face clothes. I take them on trips in my suit case. 1 cloth will wash your entire body. If I am only using them for my face I cut them in 4's. So instead of 40 cloths I get 160 cloth for the same price.

2. Instead of buying expensive oil blotter papers, buy a box of perm papers. Very cheap and works great for blotting oily skin. You can also get a inexpensive business card holder to put these papers in and carry in your purse. Also if you are in the public rest-room and grab a toilet seat liner they also do the same trick. Sarah Jessica does this trick.

3. For a quick de-tangler and to make your hair shiny and strong, after taking a shower apply a small amount of olive oil into damp hair. It will make your hair shiny and much stronger.

4. I went to the container store and bought 2 of those tiny little lip gloss pots. Then I took my favorite lipstick that had run down to the end and picked out what was way down in the bottom and plopped it in the pot! Now just use a lip brush or pinky finger! When you visit a fancy department store the cosmetic counter often have these empty little plastic pots as well. Ask to try a sample of cream and ask if they have a little pot to put it in. Neiman Marcus and Sax do.

5. I read this somewhere and it works great. Take a old pair of panty hose (clean) and put potatoes and onions in the legs, tying off each one as you go. Hang them in your pantry and they will breath and stay fresher longer. Then when you need one cut each one off at the knot and so on all the way up the strand.

6. When it comes to portable and affordable stain fighters, it’s hard to beat the individually wrapped alcohol swabs found in first-aid kits. You can buy about 100 of them for $2 at any drugstore, then stow them in your purse for on-the-go emergencies. They’re especially adept at getting coffee and tea stains out of light clothing; the alcohol, however, can have a bleaching effect on dark clothes, so use caution. For best results, attack the stain immediately by rubbing vigorously with the pad, then wipe the area with a wet paper towel or cloth.

7. Another drugstore staple with a secret superpower is baby oil. As long as you don't mind the slimy texture, this stuff will magically wipe away makeup, and it’s gentle on the skin and the eyes. For spill-proof traveling, try soaking some cotton balls in baby oil before your trip, then carrying them in a sealed plastic bag. You can buy a 20 oz. bottle for just $5.29 or lesss at the $1.00 store.

8. The perfume samples in magazines. I use them in my bra and panty drawer, hang in closet or keep in my purse to smell good on the run.

9. The white cards that come inside your panty hose package are great for kids crafts in the art box.

Great thread, I like it....

I use the plastic 'credit cards' that they send as 'scrapers'. They don't scratch the item and work really well.

There's more, I just need to remember them...lol

One of my most fruggle ways I can't do anymore. Anyways I would grow my own veggies in my backyard, and then make my own baby food. VEry easy boil the veggies, mash them, add some water. Pour into ice cube tray and cover.

Here is one or two more:
• I use Oragel for Fire Ant bites, bug bites, and to stop the stinging of cuts and scrapes. Works like a charm! Stops the itch instantly!

• To keep my necklaces organized and easy to get at. I hang them on a 4 rack pant hanger that I can just
pull the pant hanger wand I want with the row of necklaces on that I need for the day. They can be kept in your closet so you can match outfits easy.

I have saved a lot of money by trading Entertainment book coupons with people on Craigslist. For my 7 year old's birthday I posted an ad looking for Skate King coupons and I ended up with about 4 of them which saved me about $24!

* grow my own veggies/fruits when I can (I made my own baby food too, when that was necesary)
* collect coupons from family that doesn't use them, stock up on staples (toilet paper, paper towel, etc), when they are on sale AND I have coupons
* just about everything goes into my little ones art drawer
* freecycle & Spoofee
* Anytime I see something on clearance, I think about any birthdays/etc anytime in the near future that the item may work for. example: my daughters bday is in may, but I already have a mermaid plate and cup set that I got for 1.49 (90% off), and a 20 piece matchbox car set that I got for 60% off.
.. more too, as soon as they come to me

Clearance is a biggie, do that all the time. Never walk the center aisles of a store (especially Target). Always for for the outermost end caps of their aisles. And they usually bury the clothing deep close to the changing rooms. Look for those little red tags...;)

Good one lonefive! ;)

I do that too! I buy a lot of my clothes and the kids clothes at the end of the season and put them away for next year. You save so much money doing that. :bigok:

Here are a couple of more I remembered.

• When I go on a road trip I will stop by Mc Donalds and get a large coke. Then the entire trip I always stop at a different one along the way and refill. Tee hee hee.

• Scan your receipt.
Sometimes things are scanned twice on your receipt when you checkout a the grocery store. Many places will give you the item for free if you catch the error before leaving the store.

• I heard this. . .Defensive driving.
Take the defensive driving course (available online for about $40) to get a better deal on your car insurance. It really works.

• Twice last week this worked for me. My grocery had 10 for 10 and special buys on items. they had run out but before I checked out I went and asked the manager if he could check in the back both times at different stores they were out of the item I wanted but the managers gave me the larger same item for the same low price as the small on sale one! Seams to be working!

• When I don't want to cook and I'm on a budget I will call up my favorite resturant and order a kids meal TO-Go. Many come with desert and a small drink and are around 1.99 to 2.99 each. Luby's you get 1 meat of your choice, 2 sides a roll and a drink for 1.99. Chilies the chicken fingers are the best and 1 side and a drink for 2.99. By ordering To-Go they have no idea if you have kids or not! I always play like I'm leaving them with a sitter. Really I dont have kids at all. LOL

i like to re-use my toilet paper. that saves a load. :clown:

any combination

On Thursdays Bufflo Wild Wings has 50 cent bonless wings. So I try to get eveyone at work to order wings but I don't tell them they are only .50 cent so they pay full menu price, then I go pick them up and most of the time I get a free lunch!

My favorite way to save cash is to go dumpster diving. i find all kinds of great things that people just throw away. I have completely furnished my apartment with stuff off the curb. My computer desk, chairs, couches, dressers, book shelves, etc. You have to be careful not to get dirty or unhealthy stuff, but for the most part a scrub down with Lysol and Febreeze fix any minor problems. Looking around apartment complexes or places where college kids live (apartments, dorms, student housing, etc.) Heck, I even found one of my roomates on the side of the road.

I only re-use TP if it has wrapped a house. LOL

No here are a few more for everyone. . . .

• Save an old facial tissue box and then stuff recycled plastic bags into the box. It holds many bags but still allows pulling out one bag at a time. They are n ice to keep under the bathroom sink or in the garage for poop scoops.

• GIFT CLOSET FOR CHRISTMAS OR BIRTHDAYS. One of my favorite things to do is I make up my Christmas list right after Christmas every year...Every time I go to my favorite stores I always check the clearance racks.....I am usually able to by beautiful $20-$25 items for around $5....This way I am able to get everyone a much nicer gift than I could if I waited until just before Christmas....And spreading these purchases over several months is much easier, too. Instead of fighting the crowds, I just get all of my gifts out and enjoy wrapping them.

• The only added feature we have on our phone bill is voice mail and we have that due to the computer/being online. I called and found out that our local phone company now had 3 plans of voice mail (which they didn't advertise), so we reduced to the lowest which is going to save us $2 per month - a total of $24 per year. Not a lot of money, but if you realize that by trimming the fat on a few bills, it WILL add up to a lot!??

• I called the cable company next. I found out that there is a plan that if you pay by the year - you only pay for 11 months and get the 12th month free. Again, the company did not advertise this, so I only found out by asking. We also returned our converter box, which is used primarily for pay-per-view services and saved another $2.15 per month. All in all by making 2 calls I have saved almost $50 per year. That is a good return for my time, don't you think? Also, we have now decided to just rid of cable t.v. altogether. We have found that we truly don't accomplish as much by having t.v. around. We also find that we get into the "I want this" by watching too much t.v. What I have learned is that you don't know unless you ask, and it doesn't hurt to ask!

• While waiting for hot water from your sink to get hot, place a milk jug under the faucet to collect water. Use this water to water plants, pets, etc. You'll be surprised with how much water you've collected.

• When I buy kitchen sponges in say a 8 or 12 pack at the $1 store first thing I Always do is to cut them in 1/2. I never need that huge sponge. This way I can toss them more often and not have to buy so many. I also cut my Brilo Pads in 1/2 or 4's. They sharpen the scissors and I then can toss the messy Brilo right away instead of it laying around and getting rusty.

• LINKY http://www.pueblo.gsa.gov/ The Consumer Information Center in Pueblo Colorado puts out a lot of publications that are consumer oriented and oriented toward saving money and/ or using your money wisely. Some of the brochures you have to mail away for but a lot of them are available online so you can just read them. You can also access their files for brochures that may be out of print and some of them feature economical recipes which could be used or altered to your tastes.

SOME FROM THE NET:
• SUPER HINTS
• 1) Cure for headaches: Take a lime, cut it in half and rub it on your forehead. The throbbing will go.
• 2) Use of soap wrapper: Don't throw away the wrapper after removing a bar of soap. Place it inside your shoe cabinet or shoe box. It's a cheap way of filling the air with a nice smell.
• 3) If your polished furniture has small scratches: Try rubbing them with a shelled walnut. You'll see the scratches just disappear!
• 4) Are your shoes smelly: Here's a solution. Put some tea leaves into a pair of stockings & stuff each into a shoe. Leave for a day or two & the smell just vanishes!
• 5) If you have problem opening jars: Try using latex dishwashing gloves. They give a non-slip grip that makes opening jars easy!
• 6) Tips for stamp collectors: Place the envelope in the freezer for a few hours. * You'll then be able to easily lift the stamps off with a pair of tweezers.
• 7) To keep buttons from dropping off: Dab a drop of clear nail polish onto the thread that secures the buttons. This will harden & make it more difficult for thread to break off.

I dont buy garbage bags. What the hell- buy something for the sole purpose of throwing it away? No thank you! I just use the grocery bags in bathroom and bedroom/office size cans and the nicer, thicker, bigger office depot or walmart bags for the kitchen.

I know bags are only $5, but every little bit helps.

I thought this was a great thread so thought I'd bring it back.

Here is my Tip

I recently repainted the bedrooms in my house and bought the "OOPS" paint at Home Depot for $5.00 a gallon compaired to $20-30 a gallon regular price. This is the paint that they mixed for someone and it was wrong or the people never picked it up or whatever, so they sell it off cheap. My local stores had quite a bit of it and every day there were different colors.

I bought several gallons of different and some similar colors and mixed them together in a 5 gallon bucket for the different rooms. It was fun mixing the colors and we ended up with some great shades, we now have bedrooms in a pretty blue, a lavender and one red. Just make sure you buy enough for the whole room and some for touch up, since the colors will be hard to match again. I even mixed the different sheens (flat, satin etc) and different manufactures, without a problem. Did not use the oil based or exterior ones though.

Happy Painting :yo:

I purchased the oops! paint as well and painted the inside of my closets some wild colors! One gallon can do lots of closets!

I'll probably use it in the garage too! I'm not too particular there.
