I recently received an invite to Gmail. I must say, I am very impressed so far. Here is a brief review and my opinions.
The interface and storage limit is great. There are some minor improvements I would like to see. For example, a delete button on the read mail display would be a nice addition, without entering the options link. There are occasions I like to delete those forward to 15 people e-mails. Generally, after I forward 15 times to the person who sent it to me, I like to delete the waste of time.
A few features I really like, but took time to get use to. The inbox has an Archive button, after you read an e-mail you can archive it for safe keeping. Prior to archiving you can affix a label to the message. The labels are just a way to sort the e-mails if you wish. They are not folders, but you can display e-mails by label. If you apply a label, the message stays in the inbox until it is archived.
The search is as good as it gets for e-mail. It has the reliability that google searches are known for.
Message displays are similar to a forum. You can click on the tabs to view previous replies, the entire chain is saved. This is a very nice option. To display the list of recipients, reply, forward or delete you have to click on the more options tab. I find this as being unneeded. The links for the options should be displayed with any email.
The ads that are displayed are not intrusive, similar to the ads on a google search results page.
Overall I give it an A+. The drawbacks are minimal, and hardly worth mentioning. If you wish to email me just send to my spoofee forum name @gmail.com.
If I did not already have an account, I would be anxious to get one, which I was until I received the invite. GMAIL=GOOD
