Group Suicide Activities in Japan

That's one of the most depressing things I've seen in a while.

Sad, but stupid.

Wow, that's pretty ironic: "Whine Whine, life is so hard, no one loves me!" "Really, me too, we have no one to talk to except these other 7 lonely people" "Hey, I know, let's commit suicide together! We'll be suicide buddies, because no one loves us, and life is sooooo hard that we have to use our $3000 computers to learn how to kill ourselves"
I say get those silly kids some Everquest, and they'll be too busy looking for the Rune of Shalabamba to capture the evil elf queen Galamandra, they'll have no time to kill themselves.
Or maybe invent some new pokemon/anime game for suicidal kids, so they can make their card-creatures kill themselves instead of doing it on themselves: "My Hangamon monster has +5 noose points, so I beat your wrist-cutacon who only has a +4 cutting points!"

Damn! This is hard to believe. The Japanese gov't. should do something regarding this like teen suicide hotlines or something.

What's the point? We're just animals, albeit highly evolved, right?

No, I say let them do it. What's there to look forward to here on earth anyways? You work or you play and then you die. There's nothing after that, right? So what if people remember you, so what if you become famous, you'll be forgotten eventually. And even then, the odds of you becoming famous, of "making a difference" are astronomically stacked against you.

So I say, what's the point? Let them do it.

I'm surprised - this coming from a strong anti-abortion person? (referring to the FHM thread where you said "... I want to stop abortion while providing support and alternatives (adoption) to women who cannot care for their children.")
Or was this purposely ironic to make a point?

Well, we let people kill their kids, why bother stopping them from killing themselves. After all, it's my body, the Government nor anybody else can tell me what I can or can't do with it.

I figured that's what you were getting at... I think we could probably have a great discussion on that topic, but don't want to bog down this thread with it too much. I will say that I think it's worthwhile for a country to implement good mental-health programs - not just to curb suicide, but for the general health of the nation. I'm sure it'd help many facets of the society run a little smoother.

Yeup, exactly my thought. There seems to be no where for these people to go when they feel .. they need to kill themselves. They need to accept that suicide is an issue and open a hotline or community.
