My moms birthday is coming up. She goes to arobics about 2-3x a week, and is still using my sisters old gymnastic bag from like 8 years ago. I want to buy her a new one for her birthday. She takes clothes, water, towels and stuff in this bag, so it's not like a small hand bag, but not giant either. Maybe a bag with a toiletry also so she can use it for light travel too.

This DEFINATELY is not my strong point, so I'm looking for ideas with links. Price isn't really a factor, just please don't link me to like a $20 bag as I'm looking for something with greater quality.

Thanks in advance everyone/anyone

just wanted to mention a few things you might want to look for in a gym bag for your mother.

1. consider a bag w. an extra compartment for shoes. it makes it so convenient to be able to not mingle your clothing, make-up & other items w. your dirty shoes.
2. get nylon, not leather. you can't wash leather, and it's heavier than nylon.
3. lots of pockets
4. something medium in size. too small & it won't fit everything. too big & it won't fit in your locker & is tough to carry.
5. a pocket for a water bottle might be nice too, but i don't think this is a necessity.
6. black or a neutral color would probably be best

unfortunately, i'm not familiar with the bags that are out there currently, but this nike force duffel bag looks like it has everything except a water pocket ($60).

there's also this rei cargo bag that has everything, including the pocket for a water bottle ($65).

anyway, hope this helps you with your search. good luck!

penpen thanks so much for the help  I'll probably go with the REI bag + the REI shower kit here:

Shower Kit
I have about a week though so any other ideas would be helpful

Ok, update... I just called my dad, and he thinks the two that you posted are a bit too long penpen. 12-18 inches long is all my mom really needs.

Any other ideas?

i'm searching for one under 18" in length, and so far, i'm not having much luck finding anything under 20". the other duffel bags i'm finding w. the features i noted are around 24-28 inches long... which is too long.

well, there is this da kine small travel bag ($35.99), but it's 21", so still too big.

if i come across something, i'll let you know =)

OK, stumbled across a few more...

The OGIO 35 Liter Duffel (2005), $35.99 shipped from Ebags and the same bag from a different store - 35 Liter - Duffel Bag by Ogio, $32.95 Shipped from Bag King
Dimensions: 10"H x 17.5"W x 11"D

the OGIO bag is nice b/c it seemed to have everything a workout bag should have, minus the water bottle pocket. The only thing is it might look a little too sporty, but the customers' reviews on eBags are pretty good.

Another one that seemed nice is this Timberland R73 Collection Small Duffel with Removable Divider for $79.99. Also available on the timberland site (Product Dimensions: 15.0 x 6.8 x 11.5 inches). i would take a look at this one in a timberland store just to check out this removable divider and see how easily shoes can fit in there & be separated from any other items.

These next two bags seemed to your size specifications, but didn't have any reviews. Can't be sure exactly what the quality of these would be like.
Baggallini Duffel.Bagg for $36.99
Product Dimensions: 12.0 x 10.0 x 16.0 inches

Sport Bag with Shoe Pocket by Augusta Sportswear (Style# 419) for $27.70 shipped
Size: 12" x 12" x 10".

... and finally, here's a leather one thrown in just for kicks. not a big fan of this one, but it seemed to be the right size.
Women's Ken White Wide Mouth 16" Sport Duffel 42005 for $103.95
Dimensions: H 12"x L 16"x W 10"

Carson Pierre Scott Sale- Bargain on a Gym Bag!

OK... I know that Mother's Day is over and you probably already got a gift for mom, but just in case that gift idea fell through or just in case some one else out there is looking for a new gym bag...

I bought an awesome gym bag at Carson Pierre Scott today (5-13-05)!!!!!

It's by Ruff Hewn- nylon, lined and has a lot of pockets for everything! Two shoe pockets, a zippered pocket, elastic pockets, velcro pockets on the sides and more! It comes with an extra leather-like make-up case that clips inside and a long nylon keychain that also has a clip on it (I used it to put my gym card on). The straps are adjustable by a belt buckle type clasp and the bag is the perfect size- not to big and not too small. I bought a lime green one, but they also had tan/orange and dark brown/blue ones. They were originally $40, marked down to $29.99 with an extra 50% off this weekend- so $15!!!!! The Stratford Mall Carson's in Bloomingdale, Illinois still had about 6 of them after I got mine.

I'm so excited and I just wanted to share!

:D

This smiley is just not big enough to capture my mood! It needs to jump up and down too!

Ok another great bag deal!
Ross and Marshalls both have Nike and Adidas bags S-4.99 -- L-19.99 and some 14.99$ cute bags all colors next to the yoga exersize stuff! L-duffle and S- back packs!
