hey, i'm new here, so what should i know before i go crazy on this stuff

hey, so like this was the first time i've known and gone shopping on "good friday" .

1) so how long has this been going on? like is this some kind of agreement set by all businesses to bring down all the pricing of their goods for one day?

2) when it comes to "mail-in rebates" , do you have to rip off the barcode and put it in your sending envelope too? I just got a long receipt to fill out. How do you not mistaken it as junk mail?!?

3) These offers and free subscriptions from online sites. Are they safe? like, if i subscribe to some of the stuff shown on this front page, is my house address and phone numbers going to get SPAMMED likE CRAZY!??!?! :banghead:

black friday has gone on forever.. its a typical day to go out and get xmas gifts.

With rebates, you must read the rebate. Some require only a COPY of the UPC, others require the original UPC. If the original is needed, cut it out of the box, and fill out that "long receipt" you got (probably titled 'Rebate Receipt'). A lot of people like to copy the UPC before they send the original in case anything goes wrong. Just know the company offering the rebate.. it's pretty hard to confuse it with junk mail.

As for the free subs, if they ask for an email address, use a secondary -- one that you might check ever so often, but is not your primary account. Preferably use a Hotmail or Yahoo account (yahoo is 2389473x better :]) b/c they offer auto spam filtering.

For House addresses.. this information needs to be correct or you won't get the freebie. I haven't really noticed an increase in junk mail, in this dept. because almost all companies are moving toward email spam b/c it's cheaper.
Even if you do get a little mailbox spam.. it never hurts that much.. just line your bird cage or something.

Lastly, phone numbers..i have yet to actually give a good phone number for a freebie. Make something up. Unless the freebie EXPLICITY states that phone contact will be made (a red asterisk by 'phone number' does NOT qualify) i dont see any reason to give them a real phone number. Use 845 386 8285.. thats what i always use :)

OH COOL ...THANKS!! :claps:

unfortunately i just read your response after i skimmed through the past month of deals and free giveaways.....oh darn, well i guess i can only hope for the best that they don't bug my house up by calling me and leaving me messages. HAHA...i guess i need to make up a fake number now for my stuff. hm....

So is spoofee just a place where they post deals, or can you directly order and buy stuff from this site? i kept seeing this "spoofee price" and i thought that meant you had to buy it from the vendors from this site or something. Just a quick check.

The "Spoofee price" is the best price available for that particular product that Spoofee has found. These can be online or instore prices. As far as I know, nothing is bought or sold on Spoofee.com.

PS Just wanted to add a note about rebates: COPY EVERYTHING! Rebate forms, receipts, and ESPECIALLY UPC's. I know someone who lost $50 b/c the rebate co. "never received" their submission, and she didn't keep a copy of anything. I've had several rebate groups also tell me that they "never received" my submission -- but I've always been able to send them a copy (by fax, mail, or email) b/c I copy everything before I send it. :)

Spoofee.com does not sell anything. Spoofee and members post deals, freebies, and coupons, it's a group effort here :)

The deals are the best price a member has found and was kind enough to share.
For rebates follow the instructions on the rebate form, like penpen said copy everything.

For free items like said before a fake phone number and junk mail email addy is the best route. I take it a step further and use my first initial and a misspelling of my last name.

Welcome to Spoofee

Cool cool. Uh, i guess the only thing that I would want to ask that I noticed as i was navigating through the website is that on the left hand side of the main page are clicks where it says, "code: click here" I click on it, and none of them work, except for the jamba juice one. The same applies to several ones under the coupons tab.

well the code is what you use on the website, clicking on them may not always work. If it's say a buy.com pressing the code will work, if it's say Barnes & Noble you have to type or paste in the code during check out at barnes & noble website.

Oh i see, so there is a section where you enter that code in whenever you buy stuff from an online site right?

Oh, after skimming through weeks of old deals, i've noticed a ton of "free subscriptions" from magazines and places,...one in particular is magazine-city. Sometimes I think that it's too good to be true. I mean, a typical magazine costs outside at stores about 3 bucks a piece. And since there's like over thousands of people knowing about this site and subscribing, that must mean that they're giving out thousands of free monthly magazines a month, which seems sort of odd. I mean, if it doesn't charge us, then how do they make money to allow these free subs to happen? is there a catch somewhere along the line?

and what happens after the term of the subscription? do they just STOP, or do they bill or haggle you to subscribe afterwards?

At the end of the subby, it just "stops" I've been getting stuff for almost 2 years now, FHM + Maxim for almost a year, gampro, pcworld etc. It's usually a deal they put out to a limited number of customers, but if you're "late" they don't usually let you know -- they just happily take your information. Besides that, bizmag, and mag city seem to be pretty darn legit, hard as it is to imagine how they manage to be. All i know is every flight im on, i always have ample reading material, and when im done, someone next to me asks to borrow it -- but that's usually FHM :o)

oh yeah, and i just realized after singing up for a bunch of "free" stuff, that i forgot about questioning if there are any hidden charges that i didn't see when i was filling out these forms. Do they charge you for sending stuff to your house? I've been just quickly skimming through the free section deals of the forum and filling out stuff like crazy, but not realizing until now that i might have to pay like 20 bucks worth of shipping deals for all the stuff that i've signed up for delivery for. :(

Unless you gave them some sort of credit card number, how will they charge you. Also unless the freebie says they charge, you have nothing to worry about.

no like i'm afraid they'll send me a bill or something in the mail.

well, to conclude about all of this i guess, basically, all of these deals and freebies are real and true, since mostly everyone seems to have claimed they've gotten whatever they signed up for, without any problems. (EXCEPT FOR mail in rebate problems)

also, i guess after reading what cedar said, i can fake all my info EXCEPT for my address and zip code. EVERYTHING else, like, the "first name", "last name", "telephone number", "e-mail address" i can fake or put whatever the heck i want. is this correct?

with subscriptions, after the service is over, then it's over, and no hassles or additional nonfree subscriptions sent to my house.

is this all right?

Dont fake your name for rebates. Or else you will get a check to that fake name which you can not cash in. For the subscriptions, if they send you a bill after awhile.. you dont have to pay it.. they will eventually stop sending you magazines. They won't go after you.

oh yeah.. You could also give that fake phone number that you give to bad blind dates. Its something like.. " Hello, you have just been rejected.. please press one for reason number 1... blah blah" CLICK HERE to see a rejection number in your area that you can use as a fake number

oh really? so if they bill me and know my "real name" (cuz i was stupid enough to enter it before) , then i won't eventually see like agents at my door demanding for a paid fee (which may be doubled and tripled since i didn't pay)?

also, i forgot, with all these freebies, do they charge you shipping and handling fees for delivery to your house?

it might work.

sometimes i have to cash checks with my name mispelled and the bank doesnt care as long as the billing address is the same ;)

Don't even try, there is no point to screw up your own name on a rebate.

No fees unless title says *S&H and the site with the form you fill out will require payment information for shipping costs. Magazines are free unless listed *must cancel.
