I was lucky enough to get a Seagate 1.5 TB drive for $120. So, this is a good deal in spite of the rebate.

The last rebate I tried to cash bounced because the endorsing company went bankrupt.. So I was out of both my $8 rebate AND a $10 "bounced check" charge. My bank forgave me but said they will not do it again... Has this happened to anyone else?

hot power hogs

These hitachi 1TB drives run VERY hot. Too hot to touch. I have two and both are this way. In fact, there's lots of discussion about it on the web. THey also seem to use a lot of pwoer and may require a larger power supply be installed depending, of course, on what you have now.

Seagates are out there for the same price on and off. I won't but another of these from Hitachi. I'll wait for the 1 TB Seagates to come around.
