I built one of those home wireless boosters , the ones with the pringle box and have noticed that the signal strength has doubled. I want to measure what thw DB output is now and before , does anyone know a prog.
Oh and if anyone is interested ill attach a picture of it to show how easy it is

I'd like to see a pic. I've read about security firms going into the mountains here and tapping into unsecured networks, printing something on the intruded network to the tune of 'Your network is insecure. Here's my business card...', and then getting business that way. At the time, there weren't any laws against it.

I am also very interested... a pringle box you say too- does this work for b and g wirless protocols? like those new srx g routers?

Here you go , looks crappy buy doubles your boost , works with all antenas , basically makes it one huge antenna

do i actually have to give you instructions on how to make those holes :)

IF ANYONE MEASURES THE db INCREASE PLEASE TELL ME

Does a specific flavor of Pringles work better than the others. LOL :clown: :hmm:

do you have to aim it ? or do you just put it on in any direction? what are you currently using? (b or g)

To measure what the signal strength you need to d/l NetStumbler. The program is great. Install it and run it. It will detect all of the access points in your area. Select your access point and there's a selection that will allow you to view the signal strength of your access point relative to where your laptop is. The graphic feature can be setup to view the graph over time so you can make your measurements before and after the antenna enhancement. Let us know what the increase in signal strengh. :)

DVSDVL im using a b currently but it works with a g too , it just makes the whole thins an antenna because the foil in the pringle box. It dosent matter which end you point it , though the signal will be stronger on the open end , much like a satellite dish.

ok, non-techie asking probably a silly question here, but if it's the foil in the pringles carton that contributes to the improved signal, would it be possible to just use aluminum foil instead?

and if it does only work with a pringles carton, does it have to be white cheddar? ;)

never mind, should have googled my question b4 asking  -

ok, i know you already tried updating the driver, but one other thing to possibly try is to do a system restore to restore your computer's settings to an earlier point in time (i.e. b4 your computer stopped recognizing your internal wireless card).

if your OS is windows XP, then go to start>>control panel>>performance & maintenance>>on the left-hand side is "system restore", click on "restore my computer to an earlier point in time"... etc...

that might do the trick.

good luck! penpen

try going to your device manager and uninstall the drivers, then reinstall, that usually does the trick too

Are you using the wireless networking built into XP? When you run the program it turns off the windows network config. Go into your networking control panel and then see if the "Use Windows to Configure my network settings" is checked or not. Check the box and that will reenable the windows networking. FYI this is assuming the wireless card you are using does not have it's own util.

Sorry it's taken me so long to get back w/ you.
