How do they know if its a refurbished item?

I just bought a monitor refurb for 220 bux, and it has a 150 MIR... well, reading over the fine print, i see it doesnt cover refurb items..

So...

How do they know if it is a refurb item? If it is through the invoice, then they would never know b/c it is not showing up on any invoice.

I am getting the refurb monitor in the retail box so i WILL get the original UPC

Does the rebate require any information about the product's serial number?

Also, find out the UPC for the 100% known retail version, ie in a store, and compare it to what is on your box after you actually receive it.

Also, you'll need to include a copy of your receipt/packing slip for any rebate, see what it says on the packing slip after it arrives and if it indicates refurb or not.
