so how do you tell???

I have a service tag from a seller who claims his is NEW and not refurbed? So how do you tell?

I would say dial it into Dell's support website? Just a wild guess.

Ask him to provide you with the service tag of the machine and then look it up on Dell's site. You can see when the warranty expires/d to give you an idea if it's used.

Doesn't it say so on the product, perhaps on the bottom?

I work on some older Dell units that are refurbished (1.8GHz models) and there is a large red sticker on the back, but it could always be removed.

Either way, if you do get it, it's pretty easy to tell a used computer from a new one. Look for dust, etc.

Some are just returns. You know the customer changed their mind without using the computer, so they are still sold as refurbed.

Our church bought a used Dell LCD, and apparently it had come from a College, and Dell hadn't even removed the College's Inventory Tag
