Interested in peoples opinions. I only visit your typical strip-mall type place (I'm male) like great clips, supercuts.. for a typical $12-14 cut I tip $5. I have worked for tips before so that inclines me to tip above average. What say you?

I go to a salon ( only because my buddies wife has cut my hair for 20 plus years) and $20 is the cost and $5 is the tip.

I work at a salon and find that men can be the best and worst tippers. I usually get $5 for a $25 haircut, but I have regular clients that will give me $2 that have a great income and are just cheap.

I hope that everyone will leave 20% and that makes me happy.

sometimes I just have to think of it as.......at least they paid their bill :noidea:

What ever I do, I leave at least 20% if the service was as expected.

if we go to Great Clips for a $11 hair cut I only tip $1 or $2

My stylist charges $45 and she does an awesome job but she is never on time, so her I tip her between $5-9 depending on how late she is.

When I go into great clips or supercuts they ask me my phone number, which pulls up my 'account' I guess. They even know what I'm likely to ask for (#3 back and sides, just long enough on top to not stand up etc..) I wonder, if you leave big tips, do they note it somewhere, or same for low tips? I used to work at one place where we would pull up your history by phone number and there would sometimes be a history noted, about big tipper or no tipper.

I know the bar I used to work at I would always tell new bartenders or fill-in bartenders who the big tippers were...and those people usually got better attention...the way it should be? not really

the way it is....

:yesnod::rofl:

If I know you are a crappy tipper I will not let you know that I remember, but I will never forget. :thefinger:

I never get haircuts alone...always with my highlights...so my total is scary. But, I tip 20% on the total. If I take my kid for a haircut and it's $10, I tip $3. At restaurants I'm more of a stickler. I give 15% if the service isn't all that great...which I think nowadays is considered being cheapo...but hey, if you can't come by to fill up the water once, then poo on you! I give 18-20% on good service. oh wait...did I get off topic???

I pay $15 for a $12 haircut at my neighborhood barber shop. For NY City I think I tip too little but knowing my own finances I think I tip fairly. About 50% of the time I just DIY haircut for free - all the same length. Then I "tip myself" to a sports bar.
Last night I tipped $4.00 on a $24.00 wings and beer tab at a sports bar (was hoping to see the Red Socks lose). My tendency is to "round up".
Looking at this way it would have been cheaper to pay the barber and skip the bar.

Thanks all! Was wanting to make sure I was tipping to be remembered!

Forgot to mention a really useful piece of info.

Great Clips accepts almost any competitors coupon (within reason).. so go ahead and fish through those spam coupon books that arrive in the mail or in your local free newspapers etc.. I almost always find a $5 off haircut coupon for fantastic sams, supercuts, or some local place and take it into great clips and get a $13 cut for only $8.

It basically makes the nice tip I like to leave free! :peace::peace::peace:

About $2 but more during special times. Same stylist for 22 years.

20-30% depending on how much time they took.

Our local barber charges $7 and I always give him $10. It's just good practice since I know that he will refer people to my business.
