Microcenter and education discount

Microcenter has MacBook pro for $999 and often has the standard MacBook for $800. Education discounts are supposed to be good but I don't know how they work. Still, looking strictly at the hardware, Mac's are about twice as expensive as Wintel. All these prices are on last generation Intel chipsets/processors. I suppose your paying the extra for OS X without doubt is better than Windows.
