Linksys WRT150N 802.11b/g Wireless Router for $49.99 Shipped

The WRT150N isn't just a b/g router but an n-draft as well. If you have an Apple computer you may have to disable the N functionality to get this to work if you are using WEP encrpytion because you have a PSP/Wii/NDS on your network. If you are using WPA/2 with a password of the proper length requirements then you shouldn't have any issues with your mac.

Thanks for the post, I hope this can help people make a good purchase!

If you are using WEP at all, you are a fool, it can be cracked in 3 minutes... Both the PSP and Wii support WPA, if you need to put a NDS online, purchase the the little Nintendo Wifi adapter.

I challenge you to crack a 128bit WEP key in 3 minutes. Even with my dual core 2.6ghz running at max it took over 3 hours to crack a 128bit key.
And that was considered lucky (think lottery) since I only had over 50,000 IVS. Conventional bruteforce requires 1 million for a confident successful crack.

Using WPA will only be secure if you pick a long and non-dictionary password preferably with numbers. It can be cracked faster than WEP if someone picks a dumb password like "Appleeater" lol.

And I suggest putting 3rd party firmware onto the router. The popular DD-WRT can turn a $50 router into a powerful router worth hundreds.

Only install that if you know what you're doing cuz you can brick your router if you flash it wrong :|
But if you're interested, the site offers tutorials and easy walk throughs.

Thanks for the link. I've heard of that before, but was never gutsy enough to mess with my router's firmware (Linksys WRT54G). Maybe after we move though and I'm no longer dependent on the wireless signal...

If you have a WRT54G that is version 4.0 or lower then it's very easy to upgrade the firmware. Any version 5 and after it's a little more difficult. Also, if you get the WRT54GL then it's directly upgradeable with very little effort.

Thanks. Never realized the "4G" stood for 4.0 or 4th generation...if that assumption is correct.

That assumption isn't correct :angel:

Linksys' naming convention does make sense tho

WRT = Wireless RouTer
54G = 54 mbit/sec 802.11g capable
WRT150N is the 150 mbit/sec 802.11n capable.

typically all 802.11g routers can also do 802.11b as they both use 2.4 gHz and I've found all 802.11n routers do both 802.11b/g as 802.11n can use 2.4 gHz but also can use 5.0 gHz and so they include the 802.11a as well :peace:
