I really don't have much of a preference for Intel vs. AMD, but I think that Intel has the edge in notebooks due to Centrino. Even though Centrino is just marketing, their Pentium M chips are good on battery and I've found the performance to be pretty good.

i got the same exact laptop for xmas and the battery life is great. i get 4-5 hours with the 9 cell battery doing normal activities (web browsing, typing papers, email, etc). speed is pretty good too, even with graphics heavy programs.
