Match.com, a unit of IAC/Interactive Corp. (IACI.O: Quote, Profile, Research), is accused in a federal lawsuit of goading members into renewing their subscriptions through bogus romantic e-mails sent out by company employees. In some instances, the suit contends, people on the Match payroll even went on sham dates with subscribers as a marketing ploy.

Wow, those are some pretty serious allegations. We'll hear about this for a while.

sounds like a lot of guys aren't getting what they think they paid for *wink, wink, nudge, nudge*

Wow, what A marketing gimmick, yea, this will be going on for a while

oh, come on... it's not like you all really believe that a 5'9", 120lb supermodel is so desperate that she needs online dating? i've seen the teasers for those things... especially "true" i think it's called... i see their ads on hotmail all the time ... anyway, if she's THAT hot and she's really using the service, there's something else wrong with her...
it's not just girls, though... i've seen ridiculously hot guys on those ads, too. these places are scams waiting to happen.

did you read the article? i mean, the guy who's suing match.com said he dated a girl for a while and it went nowhere and she admitted to working for match.com- it doesn't say she was told by them to go out with him. it also doesn't mention when he found out that she worked for the company- was it on the first date or after the relationship ended? and why can't she use the dating service? that's like saying a mcdonald's employee can't eat at the restaurant. sounds like he got dumped and is just retaliating, but i guess we'll see...

of course, if there is wrongdoing by these companies, they should definitely be held accountable

I think that a supermodel could get all the offers she needs by just walking out in public ;)

I Met My Wife on Match.com

I know you won't believe this, and I have no employment association with Match.com, but I put an ad out in Match.com and this one particular girl emailed me, we emailed each other for a while, talked on the phone, then we dated for 6 months, moved in together for 2 and half years and got married a year ago and it's been great. And she's one of the hotter girls in South Beach, too. I think it's the best way to meet people, instead of relying on the slugs that frequent bars. All her friends find their dates on Match.com.

i see ads in craigslist all the time for part time help section. lol
ads looking for models, escorts and appearance jobs bwhahahhaa.
im sure most are scams looking for pics and the others are like this, marketing ploys.

Match sites don't date their ads. Anyone notice this? There are people with ads that have been there for years that I am sure have long since given up the project.

Good for you! My uncle ( a truly terriffic guy) met his wife (a superb lady) 35+ years ago through a dating service, and they are still married with 2 grown children. They are each other's 'life companions' and 'best friends' and still make wach others 'toes curl'. Far from ugly dorks are they with no personality! :claps:

BTW - love South Beach - I'll be there around Christmas! ;)

jl514 and precocious, you guys should get a drink over at Pearl (you may or may not enjoy the food). Oh my gosh, I took my wife (girlfriend at the time) there for Valentines and it was heaven for ME! The wait staff were in revealing dresses and they were model types. Very unique, orangy, modern, bright atmosphere. You gotta go. Unfortunately, we moved out of Miami Beach 3 months ago after finishing my work at UM/Jackson Memorial and I started a job in Orlando and we are seriously thinking about having normal children (you can't raise normal children in Miami). I miss South Beach so much. My wife asks me all the time if I miss South Beach, and then she also asks, "do you miss the eye candy?" And of course, I say "yes".
