if you're a new yorker that was stuck in traffic July 4, i hope you're on my side, if not well too bad its my opinion.

first point for people who says i should grow up and learn punctuations will only receive this as a reply: "this aint a damn classroom."

Anyways... 9:10pm I was on the BQE trying to connect over to the LIE... Traffic stops to a complete hault. Why? because they're all friggin staring that the fireworks going on. Now stopping traffic because of an accident is one thing but completely stopping because of fireworks is just retarded. How many times can u enjoy watching the July 4 fireworks over and over again each year?

Not only that, I was on an exit lane, which was stuck. Why? Because there was a trucker who decided to block the exit. 3 drivers were on top of that truck enjoying the fireworks. I was trying to get home from the beach after 12 hours and 2 hours of driving + 2 hours in traffic... What the hell did the drivers say? "enjoy the fireworks, and **** off."

I scream out bloody hell, everyone who was enjoying screamed shut the f up and i guess others like me leaned on the horn hoping for traffic to move...

I think July 4 is a great holiday, but should not cause traffic jams and haults like this. If they're gonna do something like this then block off all the damn roads that are expecting this... Its not fair and safe at all... What if I was going to a hospital? What if my wife was in labor?

This is complete bullcrap.

BTW: While I was driving home from that mess, i saw 6 accidents , 2 which involved cars hitting pedestrians that were walking home from the coast after the fireworks...

What surprises me is that the city was the one who decides to stop all traffic on bridges, and highways along the coast... Good, you just caused 6+ accidents. Next time atleast announce it or keep one lane of moving traffic.

My rant for July 4.

This is when a gun would come in handy :(

Were the fireworks good? LOL

Sure the first time... But I'm 24,.... Lets say I remember my first one at age 5.... so every year after that for 21 years was just a repeat... no difference, i never really even take notice anymore...

Lighten up, NYC has probably the best fireworks display anywhere. All the roads along the harbor/river have terrific viewing and turn into one big block party on the 4th. Why not enjoy the terrific show they put on ? (not to mention the street party)

Not a native here but a very frequent visitor and I try to get into Manhatten for the 4th. When a minor inconvenience happens like a traffic jam for the fireworks, why not make the best of it and enjoy the display? You're certainly not going anywhere so why not get out on the car roof and enjoy?

Because he dosent want to enjoy it , he wants to go home on a road that his tax money pays for.

You cant stop a road because of fireworks , what if someone was having a baby or dying , would he understand that its a good view.

Its his right to drive home , its not someone elses to stop traffic
:thumbs_do

First off... I wouldnt mind traffic if it was atleast moving... no this was pretty much a complete stop for over 45 mins. It is also 9pm... Some may enjoy it but being the designated driver for over 4 hours and then stuck on traffic is not something easy that I can just Lighten up to. ANd it was 9 PM... all i want to was to sleep.. Next time this happens I'll sleep in the car and stop traffic ok? I hope you're there right behind me so i can block off where you're going.

Look they can stop all the traffic they want, atleast PUT SIGNS UP or close the roads and make detours for that...

and to tell you the truth the city will keep on doing this until someone gets seriously hurt because ambulance cant get through... and bam thats when they'll change... only when someone gets hurt... this is how america is, and thats the only thing i dont like about it...

things never get done or improved or changed until bad stuff happens.

Haha. I feel the same way about a lot of things. At 16, I'm a new driver and my rage is really bad, take last night for example. I was late to get to my friend's barbeque and some guy was driving slowly and didn't go past a yield when he had at least 15-20 seconds to take it. I gave him a little toot and he finally went, then he's driving slow. I had no sympathy for him in his red Mercedes SL500 with the top down. He keeps going, then there's a fork on a road I take all the time and you're supposed to signal or else it messes traffic up entirely. He puts on the brake, finally decides that he's going left and then puts the signal on and speeds up again. At that point, I gave the horn a good lean and the guy flicked me off. If my sister wasn't in the car, I would've gotten a lot more pissed off. ;) I need to learn to control it, I need therapy. Hehe! And it's really bad because my sister was in the car and she probably mentioned it to my mom, hah.

I'm with you on this one... :P

you dont have to be from nyc to be street sensible and respect other people.
whether you are stopping traffic to gawk at someone's misfortune in an accident or watch fireworks, you are being irresponsible on a public road. move on in a safe and orderly fashion.

if its really "enjoy the fireworks or **** you" then what would happen if someone launched a few mortars in their direction to join in on the fun. whats fun for some people is not fun for everyone.

just because everyone else is doing it doesnt mean its ok. sometimes people need to really think for themselves.

that said, i ran into some closed roads and detours last night but i had a good time, setting off mortars away from people!

I would normally agree with carasage about his rage and stuff, but after I saw a PICTURE of the fireworks at NYC, I couldnt believe he didnt want to see it. The pictures themselves of the fireworks looked magnificent, and i wouldnt have minded being stuck in that trafic

speaking of pictures...

... =)

The NYC 4th of July fireworks display is unlike anything you've ever experienced. Millions of people are camped out on the highways and docks along the East River from Brooklyn to Manhatten. The city becomes a pedestrian zone pretty much with lots of street parties. 9Pm is zero hour and you would have to be nuts to attempt to drive during this event.

The FDR highway gets closed down and people stand on it like sardines in a can. This is the major highway on the west side of NY. Again there is no way that any vehicle is going to move an inch in such madness. Enjoy this unique party or stay home.

Sorry... For some, like i said that never seen it will love it, but I have lived and raised in NYC... Its nothing new to me.

If you're in the City, you'll especially at nite when all the garbage are out in little italy, you'll see giant rats near the trash... tourists sees and freaks, I on the other hand are so use to it.

In otherwords, if you lived in the City for 23 going to 24 of your life, the fireworks isnt all that special anymore after the umpteenth time.

Also I was rushing home to see my dog... As you kno fireworks are not dogs best friend...

Yea I should've figured that traffic was going to be slow... but never knew it was gonna be STUCK. Although I lived in the city for all my life I recently just started driving so I did not know the bridges and highways closed down.

I guess you'll live and learn.

Hey you chose to live there. One reason why NY sucks. It's funny you didn't expect a traffic jam. BTW France can have the statue of liberty back. The next time they get invaded they are on their own.
