i got the same item for $70 just 2 weeks ago :(

i have this drive.. it rules.. not a single coaster ..

Anybody got a link to download software to hack this to make it dual layer?
What is the success rate? If failed, can I roll back?

Thanks Kuryuka. I believe this software is under beta testing and risky to use.

danger..danger...yeah..forget it. it's not worth the risk.

Why not do it with the 2510 for 10 dollars more, thats dual layer and same specs

i thought about dual layer one too, at the time, the price difference was bigger, and i was more concerned that dual layer blank media is much more exp. and harder to find, i am not a pro burner that needs to burn a lot of data

btw, i am getting the ridata deal from newegg, i assume the media should be compatible w/out problem right?

Dl is $10 cheap stuff, $14 Verbatim per disk. Kind of silly to use it when you can get two dvd one layer for a dollar or so.

Only some 2500's can be made DL as only some have the right optical pickup. Odd thing is that Dl hack came out BEFORE there was commercial DL media. Makes you wonder what they tested it with.

I think I am going to get the DL one, do anyone agree??? I don't want to do the hack myself becasue I heard someone said that it is hard to roll back..... I also heard that some people cannot burn stuff after they do the firmware so I am still waiting..... If I have a choice I will prefer to use liteon but they don't have anything yet
