Just bought a DVD +- rw and i have dvd + media , will it work with the writer.

I also need to backup my DVD collection does anyone know a software that makes direct copies , or do i have to rip it first?

From my limited knowledge. I know that a DVD +-R will write to both dvd+ and dvd -. So you should be fine. If someone were to have a DVD+r only, then they could only write to Dvd + media? I think that is how it goes.

As far as i know, you would have to rip it. Are you using 4.7gb discs? If so, you would have to compress it also. Most factory dvd's are over 4.7gbs when you add extra features and bonus footage and so on. I have used dvd shrink, http://www.dvdshrink.org/what.html, which i love very much. It is compatible with Nero also.

(adding onto Cedar's post)

Make sure your dvd player can play burned discs. You can check the website http://www.videohelp.com/ for guides on how to burn stuff, and also for lists and ratings of DVD players and what media they work with. I had an older DVD player that played DVD-R's grudgingly, but didn't play DVD+R's at all... My new one plays both, and I chose it after looking at this site.

DVD SHRINK Rocks!!!! unlike DVDXCOPY that leaves a title screen in the begining of the disc and the bull**** you have to go through to start it.

newbie question.

i just purchased the dvd burner a few days ago. and i'd like to burn DVD movies using this program.
should i get dvd-r or dvd+r (for copying dvd movies)? i purchased 100 of dvd+r with dvd burner.

Thanks.
