Two questions:
(1) Just downloaded/installed X-lite. Now what? Don't understand the settings drop-down screen. What do I put in for Domain/Realm and SIP proxy? Am fairly computer literate, but don't understand much technical jargon.

(2) Want to install a freeware product like Point and Speak or Dragon Naturally Speaking for my email and word processing. Where can I find a simple-to-use product that would of course be free to use?

for your voice recognition stuff, I found one that I liked alright that's not free, but it costs about $40 called Realize Voice. It adds some fun voice commands and speach-to-text stuff. All the free ones I saw when i was looking about 6 months ago had really horrible reviews and there were several that had the occasional jhabbit of destroying hardware (hard drives, mother boards, etc.) So i'm not sure if that's changed in the last 6 months, but I liked realize voice alright. They have a 30 day free trial you can test out too.

As for the x-lite stuff, I'm experimenting with it today, I'll let ya know what I find out.

k, here's one I've found. X-lite is the client that allows you to connect to a VoIP server. You have to be registered with the server and they provide the connection, x-lite is just a front end. All the free servers I could find only allowed you to talk to other people using the same service, so you will only be able to talk pc-pc. www.pulver.com should get you to an example of one of these free servers that you can use, or you can search for another one. Here is a link that x-ten provides on how to configure x-lite:

IMHO there are significantly better and easier protocols to do ths same thing. For a very simple pc-pc voice calls I like to use Google Talk. Skype used to be a fair alternative, but since Ebay purchased it a few months ago I'm not sure how well it works. There are also lots of similar pc-pc VoIP applications out there you can try, jus tdo a google search for them.

If you want to be able to call actual phone lines, There are quite a few options here too. The only problem with the vast majority of these options is you have to pay for them. You can switch your telephony service to one of these VoIP services, but realize that you probably wont have 911 service. As I was looking, NetZero seemed like they had pretty good rates for their services, and you can use your pc as the phone and talk to other phones using a variety of different plans. anywhere from 2 cents a minute for pre pay, or $15 a month for unlimited access.

Anyhoo, that was probably a lot that you either alreaedy knew, or don't care about. If you're stuck on using x-lite, use the link to the user's manual and try and figure it out a bit. And if you have any other questions feel free to ask.
