O.K. Spoofers, before I go drive the guys at Best Buy crazy with my million questions I thought I'd ask the real brains.

I'm going to be traveling and will need access to the internet in a home where there is no computer or phoneline. I was thinking some sort of laptop/notebook (I don't even know the difference) with some type of wireless internet but I don't even know how that works.

I need to do this a inexpensive as possible and I only really need it for 1-2 months.

Suggestions please? Best place to get one cheap, how to get wireless internet? What kind should I get? :(

Thanks in advance...

Q1) Is there Internet service of any sort in the house or close-by houses?

Q2) Have you looked into renting a machine?

The phone is disconected at the house and I don't know the neighbors well enough to borrow theirs. I'll be needing it probably on a daily basis. I have an estate I need to liquidate and want to be able to acces ebay and general information of the web (plus take care of my own stuff while I'm away from home like banking and bills)

The thought of renting one crossed my mind but is it safe to be transmitting my info on? will it store things? and how/where would I go about it?

Thanks in advance, again :)

I'm no expert here, but here's what I know and what I think.

I would investigate a wireless card, like Sprint provides. I'm sure there are other providers, but they're the ones I've seen ads for.

The laptops I've rented in the past (find a reputable source) reformat the hard drive after each rental. It's loaded with the basic programs, depending on what you need, in some cases.

It may be possible to rent one WITH a wireless internet account in place. Sounds like a niche market that needs to be exploited.

I would suggest checking in your hometown AND in the temporary location.

Thanks Dan! ..what kind of place rents them? Like a Rent-a-Center? or just look up "computer rentals"?
