ok, so i've been wanting a nosering since sr. year of high school (waaaay back in the day, circa 1991)... i never got one cuz i thought if i were a professional in my adult life, i'd never be taken seriously. well, 15 years (or so) later, here i am, a professional homemaker and debating the nosering again.
so anyway, times, they are a-changin' and more and more people are wearing piercings in places i'd only heard about in late night conversations at slumber parties... and it's becoming more and more acceptable...
what i'm wondering is if i'm too old to do it now, if it would make a bad impression on the "normal" people, and if i'm just going through a mid-life crisis a few years early? there's a place at the mall that has these little studs and they'll pierce for only 15 bucks, and i wanna do it, but... i just don't know for sure. i thought maybe you all would tell me the truth, or at least voice an opinion- no b.s. in these forums ;) and i could make a decision i'd be happy with.
thanks in advance, and shhhh... don't tell todd :zip:

Keep yourself naturally good looking. Don't do it. :)

I wouldn't think you are too old for it. I'm a little more concerned that you are two years younger than me and already having a mid-life crisis...

I'm just against the idea of a nosering for purely physiological reasons...

Think about where the snot is going to come out when you've got a *really* bad cold- or allergy attack.

Yuck.

It's like- gross me out-totally! (Think 80s Valley talk)

I second this motion. However, I would have to give you a "YEAH" vote, since I feel that my piercings/tatoos may not be for everyone, but they ARE for Me. Whether its for self-expression, or mid-life crisis-WHO CARES!!!!

clubchick, if you do decide to do this, please make sure that the place you go to is reputable. the last thing you need is go somewhere shady that does a shoddy job and if their equipment isn't sterile, you could end up with an awful infection!

that said, my opinion on your idea of getting a nose-ring would be that you shouldn't get it. i've known several people who've gotten piercings in various places, who went through a lot of pain when they first got them, and most of them removed theirs after the novelty wore off anyway.

just my two cents.

It too late everyone, she already did it. Look what she has become. LOL ;)

There are two ways of doing it- The right way and the WRONG way. there are millions of women who have nose rings and they look Very normal, but when you see young chicks these days with nose rings they automatically get taken as a joke.... maybe its the way they present themselves........... BUT if your a confident women and a classy one GET IT DONE And wear it with PRIDE.. who cares what other people think(except family) Its your life Do what you want AND if you dont like it REMOVE the ring and the hole will close after a couple of months!!! You have NOTHING to loose(except $15 and Time.) And since you have been thinking about this for a long time gfo ahead and do it.(AFTER YOU CONSENT YOUR FAMILY) :)

i saydo it if you want to , you only live once , why pass it by and regret it later , plus holes heal , well atleast most of them ;)

Personally i don't think there is anything wrong with getting one at your age. As for if other people will think bad of you, WHO CARES!!!! Honestly i never really did what everone did. I believe you should do what you want to do to make yourself feel good about the type of person you are. And hey it's only a nose ring not like she's getting a tattoo across her forehead that will be there until you die. A nose ring, if taken cared of correctly while having it will show hardly a dot when removed, not much there to worry about even if it is caused from a midlife crisis. Anyways, once again i say GO FOR IT!!!!

I agree /w that, but just general society's response to nose rings seems to be slightly on the negative side. Whether it's at work or maybe your neighbors...

Do nose ring holes heal well?

clubchick... Go for what you want, if you don't do it now, you'll always kick yourself.. besides.. it is true.. you can always take it out..

It's your option, and there are many good arguements that the holes will easily heal. If you are in a real pickle, consider having it done in other places, like belly button or something. Just so you can give yourself the satisfaction of piercing your body, but isn't THAT noticable to people you don't want seeing it. If that makes any sense. I wouldn't do it, but then again, I wouldn't do A LOT of things. Good luck! :)

Get a temporary clip on type ring, that you can wear & then you can test peoples opinions of it.

thanks everyone for you input! :)
i went and bought these little stickers that sort of look like what the nosering would look like (tiny stud). i already have a clip on ring but the hoop is a bit much for my taste unless i'm clubbing (which is only very occasionally anymore) or when i'm just trying to shock and horrify my children (or my parents LOL)!!!
and just in case any of you are interested, they even have fake tongue rings!! that's definitely not up my alley, but for someone who likes the look without having to put a hole in his/her tongue--- well, just know it's available!
so anyway i'll try out the stickers for a week or two and decide then. i'll let you all know what i make of it ;)
