Netgear MR814 802.11b Wireless 4-Port Cable/DSL Router for $16 Shipped

Amazon has lowered the cost on the standard Netgear MR814 802.11b wireless router. Check out the reviews from ZDNET (8/10), DesignTechnica, and Amazon user reviews.

Pricegrabber Price : $42~92 Shipped
Spoofee Price : $16 Shipped

1. Amazon Price : $36.34
2. Rebate Price : -$20.00
Final Price : $16.34

The better deal is to go to Newegg or Buy.com and get it for $9.99.

Hmm, two days ago the rebate was $30 but the rebate form showed only one $20 rebate (edit: on newegg.com), Now I see the other $10 rebate.

I read that this is a "Best value" router (decent wireless+wired) :D

Fair warning:

I've had a terrible experience with this thing. I got one from staples a while back, seemed good at first, but it eventually started to crap out. It would lose connection at least once a day, and it took like 10 minutes to reconnect. It drove me insane, and updated firmware didn't help. I found out I wasn't the only one with problems, negative reviews at amazon.com all had the same problems as I did.

I hereby vow never to buy a Netgear product ever again.

I have a linksys router and it does the same thing. We called comcast about it and they hooked up a cable amplifier, problem fixed. So, there could be a couple different problems contributing to you losing your connection. My roomate at college has the router mentioned above in this board, and he says he's used it for a year and a half, and he'd highly recommend it.

Well I had a Linksys wired router before I got the Netgear, never had a problem with it though, and I still use it. I'll get the wireless Linksys router once there's a hot deal for it ;)

I use Comcast service tooooo, we're like brothers!

I find that Linksys and Netgear both make excellent routers. I use Comcast as well.

Be careful! That $30 rebate is only good from 11/11 through 11/21. If you buy early, you may not get the extra $10 back.

Beware! Read Amazon reviews.

There are tons of people who've had problems with this router. No wonder they're trying to get rid of it. That's a shame cause I was about to buy one too. Maybe it's worth taking the risk for about $6.

Thanks Samcasey, I made the notice on the front page. I hope Amazon fixes this or changes the rebate form. I will email them.

i love netgear. i have this model but the MR814v2! Version 2 though. never had any problems with it at all, it's very small and works flawlessly. i just had a past problem with my new dell 700m connecting, but a firmware upgrade fixed everything. i had to upgrade the firmware so it can patch up the compatibility with the 'centrino-based' systems. but yea 16 bucks AND AR isn't much of a deal for a 802.11b these days.

Netgear and linksys make excellent routers just stay away from d-link :)

uh oh, i bought it when i saw that $30 rebate, so unforunately i wont be all $30 back. i'll just use the $20 rebate instead, its still not a bad deal. and as a response to all the bad reviews: i don't need exceptional performance here. this will be my first time using wireless (i have a desktop, but my mom just got a laptop) so this is pretty much a learning experience for me.

and thanks for the reviews, guys. they definitely help when i'm considering buying something. spoofee rocks!

NetGear is really giving away the 802.11b products. With 54Mbps and 108Mbps 802.11g devices flooding the market, they better get rid of the 11Mbps 801.11b devices.
I can almost guarantee that if we wait until Dec, we can get them for FREE.
