As far as blood is concerned, I can offer a couple of explanations:
1. The nail was never pulled out immediately, so it essentially plugged its own hole.
2. The man may have already been bleeding from another injury and didn't notice the additional blood.

I'd opt for the first since it is more likely.
 
I dont think he saw blood. i doubt there was blood, how do you survive something like that , how do you not know. CRAZY
 
Wow, how does this happen? How do you not feel that happen? That's just incredible. Even if the nail did plug the hole he'd still feel the metal "plug."
