I actually can't believe the parents who flipped out over the kids watching the president.

They didn't even show it at my kids' school.

"Obama says he want kids to study hard which we all know is a slippery slope to becoming a Nazi."

That is hilarious Monkfish! I might have to post that on my facebook.

That lady is nuts, although a Happy Meal sounds pretty good right about now.

I wonder if he had a different speech in mind before parents objected.

I don't know any one that droped out of high school; or had kids when they were 15; nobody did drugs in my school; so why dose Obama think this is a problem?

No wait ...

I knew a lot of kids that did all of that :yesnod::yesnod::yesnod:

The only problem bigger than drop outs & underage parents are the STDs that get passed around schools.

I read the whole speech. It is just terrible! I can fully understand why so many of our citizens would want to prevent this sort of message from getting to the children.

These are the citizens who sell drugs, deal in prostitution, want ignorant workers, and want to keep the general population "under control" etc. Smart kids would be terribly disruptive to "business as usual".

BTW, I tuned in, turned on and dropped out. A speech like his, when I was in grammar school may have made a difference for me, maybe not but it couldn't possibly have hurt.

:hmmmm: Jerry, you heard/read the revised speech, correct?

How the hel should I know? No matter what it is it's a lie. There will be a subversive subliminal message that only children will be able to hear and it won't be written.

Seriously, with all the crap kids watch and listen to I doubt anything Obama said would even phased them. God forbid our kids learn something useful!

My daughter opted out and went to the library and read books instead of watching the speech at school. She and four other kids from her class. One brought a "WHOLE BASKET OF BOOKS" and they just had the best time reading and chatting about the books. I think that was probably a better use of her time.

Then again... she's only in first grade. I don't think the speech was necessarily geared towards her class.

it was geared towards highschoolers

it was geared towards highschoolers

Not only that, it was geared toward highschoolers who need a kick in the azz to think of their future, stay in school and make something of their lives.

Two things:

First- the link is missing so I didn't get to read it.

Second- I didn't watch the speach myself, or the one later in the evening (I don't even know if they were related or if one was kids and one was healthcare)...anyway....my 2nd grader DID watch it at school. I asked him what it was about and he said,

"President Obama said that they're doing all they can to get us more money for our school, but we have to do our part and study hard to learn too."

Based on his summary, I'm don't see any reason to be offended. My son thought it was kind of special that another well known adult showed some attention/care for his education.

OMG!! the link just appeared as soon as I posted..so forget "First".

OMG! Now I watched it! It's not real right? ....I'm laughing so hard....I can't even scrapbook!

It's not real right?

Interesting question. It's surely a parody but, on the other hand what it's being a parody of is really-real and really-really scary to me. Something I find fascinating is that the same people who try to associate Karl Marx to Obama also try to associate Hitler to Obama. Hitler was not a socialist and in fact Russia was one of our WWII allys. Hitler was anti-Marxist, racist, and whatever he didn't like was anti-German. Reflecting on this the current rhetoric against Obama is anti-Marxist, racist and seemingly everything he proposes is anti-American. GMAFB, it's one or the other. He can't be a Marxist and a Nazi!

Wow, maybe he's neither? Could he just be a liberal - OMG! what a thought - he's not the centrists all the pundits suggested he was during the election! I think he's a freaking liberal! Is it possible that this is what the citizens of the U.S. really wanted. Surely not! (insert tongue-in-cheek smilie here with a roll-eyes smilie)

I'm sure I lack many facts of the matter but I'm just a simple undereducated man who, as a child would have never "gotten" the message your son did from this speech. I tend to over-simplify if you haven't noticed.

I think you should be exceedingly proud of your little one. It sounds to me like his take on the message was that of a good American Capitalist and that if you work hard you will reap the rewards of your industry. Too many people seem to never "get" this. :peace:

This comes from the same type of people that screamed "Communism" during the period of integration. Kind of ironic.

Good call.

I have faith in my country and my fortune that cooler heads will prevail.
