Plantronics Discovery 925 Bluetooth Earpiece for $39.99 Shipped

Just FYI for those who are interested in buying it. I bought this same exact model before in the past and when it works, it's great. The problem is that it keeps malfunctioning. The issue is that I can hear the other caller but they can't hear me. I have received replacements (still under warranty) for this more than 3 times already and just gave up using this brand now. With the total of the shipping cost, I could have chipped in a little more and bought something more reliable.

I have had mine for over a year and it is the best I have ever had. Bought some as gifts too and they love them too. The charging case is handy.

The gold one is the only one I see that is still available for that price and that is only if you click on the buy from Amazon link that says it's 3-5 weeks for shipping. Looks like Amazon sold out there supply quickly so the links above all show available from other sellers for $70-80.

This sounds exactly like a radio interference issue. Most likely it's a problem with the location you're using it in. There is an interference source nearby. For example, Bluetooth shares the same frequency band (2.4GHz) as 802.11b/g wireless, so if you're near an access point or a computer that is connected wirelessly, then your bluetooth earpiece can malfunction. Some cordless phones also use the 2.4GHz band, so it could be working fine, then your neighbor pick up the phone, or you drive past a house where someone is using a cordless, and it cuts out. Of course, other bluetooth devices can also interfere. You could be driving down the road, and the earpiece is working great, then you pull up next to someone else who is using a bluetooth device, and it cuts out. You will probably have the exact same problem with any bluetooth earpiece you try (in that location), no matter the price. That said, most people do not have interference problems. It's never been an issue for me at my desk, and I'm right next to an access point and a cordless phone.

I own this exact earpiece, and it's really a great little thing. Far better than the Motorola one that I also have. The only problem with mine is that I lost the little rubber piece that goes from the device to the ear. Watch out for that - it comes off (there are a couple different sizes for a perfect fit) and if it's lost, you're screwed.

I tried to rule out any interference. This happens in the house (which never was a problem even with our wireless router and computers) and also while driving (once the problem occurs, it stays that way, where the other party can't hear me). I doubt this is a interference problem since the problem doesn't go away at all. Besides having a cell phone with me and the car antenna, nothing else in the car should interfere with it especially when driving for a long time in different areas.

I definitely agree that it's better than all the Motorola models I tried. Clear reception and comfortable. I would go back to Plantronics again but after 3-4 replacements, it just got me frustrated. All those replacements worked fine (in the house and in the car) until a few months down the line where the problem will return (the pattern repeats every few months).

Then you must have very bad luck, because Plantronics is rated extremely high very high for reliability. They have a history going back decades, which includes making all the headsets for the Apollo moon missions (spacecrafts and mission control). Their business with NASA is the reason why all their Bluetooth headsets are named after NASA spacecraft (Discovery, Voyager and Explorer). Plantronics equipment is also very highly regarded in aviation communications. So, those applications obviously require a high degree of reliability, and it's generally known that they've carried on that record of reliability with their consumer Bluetooth ear pieces. I guess you just have really bad luck, or you're doing something that is breaking them.

I'm going with bad luck in that case LOL It's never been dropped and I'm technology savvy for the most part so we can rule out any "newbie" mistakes as well. I paid a little more for it back then and like I said, I really did enjoy using it until it kept breaking down on me. Unless they were giving me back refurbished models that had similar problems but were "fixed" temporarily for those few months.

Believe me, I read the reviews online and this was the main reason I swayed away from Motorola and went with Plantronics. I may go back to them again as these other models don't seem to be up to par with it. I just hope they don't "break down on me again.
