After doing research, I've finally decided to open up my first bank account at age 15. I chose PNCBANK after researching them all, and am very impressed. Just thought I would share my experience since it is somewhat of a deal. PNCBANK was able to offer me their Free Checking joint account between my mom and I for checking with no monthly fee, no minimum balance, a free VISA Check Card and only a $25 deposit required to open the account. I went in today and the setup process is quick, I was able to deposit a lot of money, and I will be receiving my online password and my check card in about a week.
I was pretty impressed at the fact that I can have a bank account with the conveinence of PNC (many branches, many ATMs at supermarkets etc.) for no charge, only thing is that you don't get any interest. Still, an easy way to deposit my checks that I make from my business and keep track of my money, as well as use my check card like a VISA credit card for purchases. (Which might really come in handy for those free after rebate deals, especially also to be able to mail in the checks in my name and deposit them back into my account.)
PNCBANK seemed to have the no fees attached approach, but they also gave me the most free benefits out of the banks. Wachovia was a close 2nd, but they had more surcharges attached to using ATMs outside of the Wachovia network.
Anyway, just figured that sharing my experience might help someone looking for a bank account with hardly any strings attached. I'm pretty happy with it, and I can't wait to get my check card.
