After doing research, I've finally decided to open up my first bank account at age 15. :) I chose PNCBANK after researching them all, and am very impressed. Just thought I would share my experience since it is somewhat of a deal. PNCBANK was able to offer me their Free Checking joint account between my mom and I for checking with no monthly fee, no minimum balance, a free VISA Check Card and only a $25 deposit required to open the account. I went in today and the setup process is quick, I was able to deposit a lot of money, and I will be receiving my online password and my check card in about a week.

I was pretty impressed at the fact that I can have a bank account with the conveinence of PNC (many branches, many ATMs at supermarkets etc.) for no charge, only thing is that you don't get any interest. Still, an easy way to deposit my checks that I make from my business and keep track of my money, as well as use my check card like a VISA credit card for purchases. (Which might really come in handy for those free after rebate deals, especially also to be able to mail in the checks in my name and deposit them back into my account.) ;)

PNCBANK seemed to have the no fees attached approach, but they also gave me the most free benefits out of the banks. Wachovia was a close 2nd, but they had more surcharges attached to using ATMs outside of the Wachovia network.

Anyway, just figured that sharing my experience might help someone looking for a bank account with hardly any strings attached. I'm pretty happy with it, and I can't wait to get my check card. :)

No branch locations around me, just 2-3 ATM's located in malls. :(

Yeah, they have about two or three branches that are really close to me, I know they have a few ATMs at the local mall, plus they have some in some local big supermarkets I'm always at. Also, at every Wawa convenience market in the Philadelphia area, there's a PNC ATM that can be accessed free of charge, so I feel like they were really the way to go. Now I'm working on converting my parents, they use a smaller local bank called Firstrust and they aren't too bad, but I think that PNC is cheaper and probably more convenient. I have to check the exact rates...

paypal

I'm only 13 and I use Paypal's account for a debit account. I just deposit FAR checks in my mom's PNC account and transfer it over later. I usually have a balance from ebay purchases too but if I need cash I just get some altiods at the local supermarket and cashback or have my mom just cash a check.

Paypal's account is pretty good since it has a debit card with 1.5% cashback

more than most credit cards and it's interest bearing 1.03%.

You just cant write checks which in this age are becoming irrelevent. I dont think the money is insured through the FDIC either though.
They also charge a hefty 1.50 on all mac withdrawls on top of any other bank fee :11:

I've learned to love and hate PayPal at the same time. When it works great, I love it. When it works terribly, I hate it. For example, now with my bank account, I want my PayPal account in my name, instead of my mom's name. I don't even think PayPal is going to do it, and I don't know whether I close my account and re-open it, whether that will work. They have too many hidden policies and it is just a big pain. When I checked Wachovia who had the 2nd closest rates to PNC, I believe they also had that $1.50 ATM fee charged by PNC, but I wouldn't use anything but a PNC ATM anyway, since they're all over.
