My failure to get Circuit City to price-match with Staples on the 1GB Memorex TravelDrive has me thinking about tips and tricks for increasing your chances of getting a price match.

Surely some of you have found that some arguments work better than others, etc.

Share and share alike!

Tip #1: this forum is not appropriate for this discussion

Tip #2: if you don't succeed with one CC, go to another one. To PM or not to PM is solely at the discretion of CC CSR/manager. So. if they just don't like you or having a bad day, you're not getting a PM. So, just go to another store if you want to waste time and gas money.

Re: Tip #1 ... Feel free to suggest the appropriate forum. I read the description of them all and didn't see where my topic would fit.

Re: Tip #2 ... I understand that price-matching is at the discretion of the manager, hence this discussion. Sometimes you can say the right thing to convince him or her to help you out.

i always start an argument with this, but i'll try to phrase it better this time...

ok, first off, i think it's kind of wrong - most of the pricematching deals on here. a lot of em aren't just using the "pricematch + %5 bonus" type of deals. the deals are knowingly exploiting the fact that most companies will overlook the mail in rebates, and thus give the customer more money back up front. the fact that the line "drop your rebate forms off in the car" accompanies most of these types of deals just proves that we, the customers, realize that we are trying to hide the mail in rebates from the sales people who are going to pricematch for us.

now, as i said, i always start an argument with this, so i'm sorry in advance. but does anyone else think it's wrong? i mean, we aren't just utilizing the company's pricematching policy, but exploiting it.

I had no idea the Spoofee community was so friendly! :(

You must have caught some people on a bad day.

As it was mentioned, persistence is the trick and be super nice to the CSR and/or their manager and don't appear like you're trying to pull a fast one.

Listen to Big Daddy, be nice and smilie......a great pair of legs doesn't hurt neither! Oh, if you can, flirt! :05:

The CSRs always love my legs (and butt). :o

What about the suggestion I read on another deal site's forums: If the item you're buying has a rebate with a quantity limit, buy two. The store should pricematch the first item from the after-rebate price and then pricematch the second item from the full price.

Has anyone had any luck trying that?

Jason
