I think its ide. Its the nicest enclosure I've seen. Very smart. When the computer is in standby or hiber. it shuts down the disk.
 
All external harddrives are just internal harddrives inside a little box. All internal harddrives come in either eide or sata formats these days. This external harddrive, therefore, is either eide or sata. Has anyone cracked one of these open to see which it is?

I'd be surprised if it were IDE since WD doesn't make any internal 500gb ide's. But who knows.

Can you usually open these cases? If so, I suppose I could understand how it might matter what the internal connection is. Are you planning to take the drive out and put it in your computer? That's an interesting idea.
 
I don't plan on using it as an external setup forever, no. Since enclosures tend to last longer than the hd, I'd like to know if I can use this in the future since I have no plans of ever using an IDE drive again.
