There is this store in the neighborhood and they sell their soda for 50 cents for Chinese people and when an African-American comes and buy their soda it's 75 cents. So my friend went to their store and asked for a soda and he said it's 75 cents but then said no more pop. My other friend then went into store and he was Chinese and he came out with a pop when that guy said it was sold out and it was only 50 cents for him too. So another firend of mines told his dad and they were having an argument in there and everyone was taking the guy's side saying stuff like "Just forget it" and I saw that guy's smirk. So what is your opinion on this? Do you think it's rascism or not?

Definitely racism. Just forget about the store guy. He's not worth your time or your breath. Just go to another store and buy some soda.

Sounds like racism to me. It would be interesting to see what happens if an African American and an Asian person went in together and tried to buy the same thing.

There is no way to tell if its racially motivated or if one of the kids (we are talking about 11 year olds here) copped an attitude, tried to steal something, insulted the guy behind the register, etc. If the kid who was refused asked for a soda that they were out of and the other kid asked for a different one that they werent out of.

Of course Spoofee12 is gonna say that none of that happened. That it is ALL the proprietor's fault. That the circumstances were exactly the same for both transactions, etc.

Fact is, the guy who owns/runs the store can sell his products to whomever he chooses at whatever price he chooses.

Oh, and just for the record, unless someone immigrated directly from Africa, they are not "African-American". They are American. If thats not good enough, then they should leave.

:claps: I agree. I am so tired of PC terms. I have a friend whos parents are from Trinidad. Why should he be called African American? LOL

LS, the longer I know you, the more sense you make :)

Oh the guy also called my friend a black person and cussed her out

He called your friend a black person? How dare he call her a black person? Whats the problem with calling someone who is black a black person?

I wonder what she said to him to make him curse at her.. Let me guess, "nothing," right? Its all the other guy's fault, of course.

I think we need the rest of the story.

then we can send it to Paul Harvey and he can say
"And now you know, the rest of the story. Good day"

So, you're saying African-Americans are black? Black as the color of this font because they aren't and if you have a problem with this thread please just stay out of it and just don't respond.

Thats true, theyre not actually black. They are, however, just as black as I am white. Unless you want to call me an Irish-French-Spanish-Welsh-American instead. You know perfectly well that black is an acceptable term for black people. Either theyre African or theyre American they cant be both. America doesnt allow dual citizenship. But you might not have learned that yet. So why dont you refer to your other friend as a Chinese-American?

And my problem isnt with the thread.

I have every right to voice my opinions in these fora. Or is that a pseudo-latin term? Anyway...

I'm pretty sure you're wrong on this point. From a legal standpoint, by opening the store, the owner is obligated to sell to any customer regardless of racial/ethnic background. Similarly, he may not set price based on racial/ethnic background.

If a racist wants to go into business, I believe the loophole he must use is to operate as a private club, rather than a public business.

LS, i sorta stole your african-american comment for my online class discussion. i pointed out that by hanging onto these hyphenated titles, nobody has to adapt or assimilate because they're not really "american". so thanks :)
