Based on all the happy comments from the Costco thread about recycling electronics for their gift cards, I did a quick search for "trade-in recycle electronics for cash" and found this website: http://www.greenelectronics.com/ReGREEN.asp.

It's a list of many different options for discarding your old junk. You can recycle, donate, trade-in with manufacturers, or get cash back. :teeth:

My niece just got a practically brand new Sony laptop thru one of the freecycle websites. The guy even delivered it to her door, no problems, no hassles. I was amazed at this.
