Refurbished TiVo HD Video Recorder for $184.99 Shipped

Refurbished just makes me nervous, especially with all the trouble my wife and I have had with DVD players lately. Seems they break once a year.

But what I've heard from TIVO is as long as its activated and your paying for service its under warranty and they will replace it.

I can't say for sure about the warranty, and I do agree it makes me nervous. It's a pretty good price and I called Tivo and found out you can transfer an existing subscription over to the new set (if you don't want to use the old one anymore). That way you keep your current price with no commitment.

Just grabbed one of these. Hard to find for less than $250, and there is no subscription requirement with this box. I also understand there to be full warranty, so... yay for my series 2 becoming an hd tivo.

Thanks for it

Not sure what you meant, but this box does require a subscription in order to be more than a fancy paperweight. Also, FYI you can't transfer a lifetime subscription from another box anymore. They had a period that you could do this in, but I'm pretty sure that has long passed.

I'm tempted, since the Comcast DVR service is a little more a month and certainly not as user friendly. I'm just a little worried about getting the Comcast tech bozos to get the cablecard set up properly.

If you get this deal, DON'T sign up for the 3 free month if. . .

. . . you're already a TiVo subscriber/lifetime sub holder.

I spoke with a TiVo rep today and was told that you can get a Multi-Service Discount with this if you already have TiVo. Since I already have a lifetime sub for my old Series 2, I can get the TiVo HD sub for $99/year. But, you can NOT get the MSD if you sign up for a special offer, like Woot's "3 Free Months w/ this purchase" offer.

Once I return my junk Scientific Atlanta HD-DVR ($15/mo for HD + hardware) and get a cable card ($9/mo) from my cableco, I will be paying only $3 more a month than I was for my TiVo service.

Plus the $185 for the box + s/h, that is.

Comcast is shady

I'd be worried too. ESPN mysteriously disappeared from my Comcast lineup thorugh TIVO for three weeks. Comcast couldn't figure out what was wrong remotely so they sent somone to check my set up. They claimed that it was TIVO's fault and tried to charge me for the service visit. I called Tivo and they said they were not getting a ESPN channel from Comcast at that time. They said they would try to contact Comcast and get them to fix it. Low and behold, ESPN reappeared on my lineup within a few more days. Oh, and Comcast tried to spin the "situation" into a pitch to get me to buy their DVR.
