Not too bad of a deal

This is a pretty good deal, but not alot of restaurants have participated. In the greater SF bay area there are litereally hundreds of different places to eat, yet only a handful ~30 have actually participated. Still a good deal if you live in SoCal as the eateries there have obviously jumped onboard.

has anyone used these coupons before? are they pain to use at the restaurants? also, what are the mega coupons and why buy them with the discount if they can't be redeemed? I am new to this restaurant.com and wanted to find out more about it.

thanks for any input!

I have used some of these before. No problems from me. Really easy to use actually and you can give them to your server at the beginning of the meal so if you are on a date, you can be inconspicuously cheap. The restrictions can sometimes be a pain but each dining certificate explains them before you buy it.

The dining certificates to look for are the 50% off ones. Those are the only ones I ever get. Hope this helps.

Yeah, I have used them all the time. What I do is not tell the restaurant that I have one till I get the bill. This Ensures great service. however some of the coupons say you must present it before ordering. Also they say you can only use 1 COUPON at a particular restaurant in a 30 day period. just read the fine print and its all good. with the 60% off i got a 25.00 meal fro 5.00 bucks at a sweet restaurant. also i have seen online a link where you can refer a friend and they give you a free 10.00 certificate. i just made up a new email at hotmail and referred myself and got the freebie.

just used a $25 off last night here in Boston. simple as can be to redeem - the restaurant/waiter calls an 800 # and enters your coupon code to validate. discount is taken when you get your check. we had a delicious seafood paella, grilled cod dinner for $47 including tip but paid only $22 out of pocket (coupon - $4, tip - $7, cash balance after discount - $11).

We get these in our restaurant from time to time.

We give the same service level anyways because 99% of the people who use them tip on the entire bill.

Ours are pay 10 bux get 25$ worth free -- so with the 60% off it would be 4$

But we do ask that you present them prior, because there are restrictions, but thats the only reason.

Some of our restrictions....

Can only be used on food portion of bill, no alcoholic drinks.

Not valid on holidays or friday and saturday nights.

Not valid after one year of purchase.

Valid for dine in only.

50% coupon Not valid for parties of 6 or more.

Only valid for one check, multiple checks cant be combined.

Check must be a 50$ minimum.

Theres a few others, but every place is different.

On of the biggest complaints we get is the 50$ minimum thing. People come in for lunch and its hard for them to ring up a tab. So thinking it works like a gift certificate they just get what they would normally get.
Check comes to 31$ and they whip out the coupon and we have to point out where it states 50$ min, then they say "oh, but we came here last time and they said it was ok"

Well, the last time never happened, because we'd be losing virtually every penny on the deal.

These coupons are great. I use the 50% one alot and still get great service.

Well, most places have a $35-40 minimum. $50 is waaaay too much. Some places it's hard to even get the $35 with two people. I can understand presenting the certificate ahead of time, but there is only one restaurant in my area that requires that, and if you don't give that more than likely new customer great service, you will likely lose their future business. That is one of the reasons the certificates are offered anyway. All of the restaurants in my area say the certifictes are valid anytime, including holidays and weekends. By not honoring them on Friday and Saturday nights, you could be losing potential new customers as that's when most people go out to eat. We almost always use these on Friday or saturday at restaurants in downtown Charlotte before we go to events and have found a few good places that I wouldn't know about if they didn't honor them on Friday and Saturday, because I just would have went somewhere that did.

Well i mean, i can see where 50$ might be a bit much at lunch. But at dinner our entrees are moderate prices, and it is uncommon for a couple to come in and get entrees one app and two drinks for under 50 bucks. We are a private restaurant and most all of our guests are local repeat customers.

The problem with a 35$ minimum is it goes to no ones pocket. The guests would be eating for cost (our only coupon at this time is 25$). No money in restaurants pocket. When you get customers who do this once a week or once every two weeks (even though the 30 day restriction is stated) then they are eating at cost 2-4 times a month.

As for the friday and saturday thing, we make them valid sun-thursday because friday and saturday are our "pick up nights"

Its not a mystery that we make the most money friday and saturday nights. What we dont make in the weekdays before, we pickup on friday and saturday.

It only seems better business practice to allow the full paying customers the prime nights out, and to give them the shortest possible waiting time. If half the people who walked in the doors on friday night all had 25$ coupons and only bought 35$ worth of food, we losing a massive profit. We have limited seating and usually strive for under a 40 minute wait. Anything over 40 minutes and guest tend to want to leave and go someplace else.

As for new customers, we welcome them, but simply can not accomodate everyone. We have the all business we can handle on friday and saturday nights and then some. I think every restaurants goal is to maximize business on every weeknight. We are getting close with thursdays wednesday and now sundays. But on fridays and saturdays, the prime nights of the week, it only seems logical to cater to the higher paying customers.

Worth buying a friend for $5...

Restaurant.com also has this deal (ad/link was at bottom of front page):

REFER A FRIEND Get a $10 Restaurant.com certificate (by email)
each time you refer a friend who buys a certificate at Restaurant.com

Sounds like a great way to get a BOGO offer and still use the 60% off coupon(s) if you have a "friend" who wants to buy from them too. ;)
