Does anyone if there are any specials for pre-ordering The Lord of the Rings: Return of the King (extended version) somewhere where it can be picked up in store? I'd like to watch it the night it comes out (Dec. 14). Appreciate any info! :)

My guess, from what I've seen of the Ext. edition set of 3, is that stores may have the new release specials (i.e. 20-30% off msrp for new releases), but I doubt it will be any different for special ordering than for just showing up dec. 14th at borders or B&N and buying it in store.

Borders has it listed at $27.99 on their website. B&N has it listed for $27.98.

Best Buy has the best pre-ordering deal I can find. They're selling it for $22.99. You can pre-order and pick it up at the store that day.

And if you have not ordered *by phone* from Best Buy before, I believe you can use promo code DRC1204 to save an additional 10%, which will get the price down to $20.69.

(Best Buy promo code fine print: valid on your first purchase only, phone orders only. 800-BEST BUY. Must be presented at time of purchase. Offer valid on purchases up to 5,000 and excludes desktop computers, laptops, and servers. Markdowns taken from regular prices. Limit 1 offer per customer. Offer expires December 31, 2004.)

Runners up are Costco and Circuit City. Both of them are selling it for $24.99.

Great idea! Actually, when I went to BestBuy.com, they have a $5 digital coupon. I have some of those McDonalds Best Buy Bucks about to expire, so I'll probably just order it online. Thanks for the help!

Seems as if you can't pre-order most places except if you're getting it shipped. :(

Hmmm... I've heard rumors that the 10% Best Buy coupon may not work afterall. Sorry about that.

Outpost.com has it listed for $21.99. Since Outpost's and Fry's prices are usually very similar, I would think that Fry's price for the DVD set on the first day of release will probably also be $21.99 or so. If you have a Fry's located near you, I'm guessing that this might be the cheapest place to pick the DVD set up on the day of release without pre-ordering it.

I'm thinking that I may drive to Frys on Tuesday and pick it up at lunchtime.

But that digital $5 certificate you get at Best Buy is also very appealing...

Arg. Decisions, decisions!

I bought it today at Fry's for $20.99.

I was told by a CSR that the price would go up to $29.99 starting tomorrow, although I'm not so sure about that since the sticker on the plastic wrap says $22.99.

They have it for 29.99 here locally. I haven't been able to find it anywhere cheaper. I was surprised to see it though since I thought it came out the 17th.
