CHARLESTON, S.C. - Fire swept through a furniture warehouse, collapsing its roof and killing nine firefighters inside in a disaster the mayor described Tuesday as "difficult to fathom or quantify."

"Nine brave, heroic, courageous firefighters of the city of Charleston have perished fighting fire in a most courageous and fearless manner, carrying out their duties," Charleston Mayor Joseph P. Riley said at a morning news conference. "To all of their loved ones, our heart goes out to them."

This is so sad. My thoughts and prayers go out to the family members. :(
 
Oh my gosh that is so sad. My thoughts go out to the families.
 
That just broke my heart when I heard about the loss of the 9 firefighters.My thoughts are with their families on this very somber day.:verysad:

Yup I live in Myrtle Beach,and My sister In law lives in Charleston off of Dorchester RD. I beleive.
anyhow this is supposed to be the most FireFighters killed in the line of duty at one time since 9/11/2001,indeed it was very sad,the FireFighters thought there were people inside the building thats why there were so many inside.
I'm not sure however if there were anyone inside or not.
