Samsung DVD-HD755 Hi-Def DVD Player for $70.33 Shipped

Hd850

I just bought the samsung HD850 upconvert DVD for $20 more (after rebate). I think that's a higher end than this one.... with HDMI connection and all. The HD850 comes with an HDMI cable, so saves you some $$ there. Today is last day at circuitcity.com.

Just FYI for the home theater "noobie"... this is not one of the new "Hi-Def" DVD players that are beginning to trickle onto the market. It *does* output 1080i, but only plays "regular" DVDs, *not* Hi-Def DVDs.

The new blue laser "Hi-Def" DVDs encode the material at double or quadruple the definition (pixel count) than regular DVD's. As they begin to get more popular, prices on regular DVD players will drop even further.

This may be a good deal to "hold you over" until the Hi-Def players and DVD titles are releases for someone with a HDTV plasma, or CRT projection television.

Cheers!

I too bought the 850 from Circuit City. It's still on sale for $80.00 AR and it comes with the HDMI cable.

DVDs are set at 480i. Converting them won't create for you any new data. So, I don't see the point of upconverting players. It seems to work like your digital zoom on your camera.
