I'm probably opening a can of worms here, lol, and am most likely going to end up regretting it, but here goes anyhow....

I just want to know what the parents here have for an opinion about scholastic books.

We use them, but usually get the 95 cent books. It's a good program because the schools get free books. The end of the year book faire is great because it is BOGO free.

We love using them. We buy a variety of books, but if you are getting sets (i.e. Chronicles of Narnia, etc) you will get a great deal. We compared the same paperback set between Scholastic and Barnes and Nobel. Scholastic was about 23.00 cheaper. I also buy books that I can attach to the tops of gifts for my children's friends.

we order from scholastic. no problems here

I used to years back. Every month! It was a breeze + great deals!

i'd just watch out for their "clubs".. they're more trouble to get out of than they're worth

I was just curious as to how people felt in general about scholastic because I kinda work for them. I work for a company that has been hired by them to call their clients and offer new products/books that are age appropriate for their children. Odds are, that if you get calls from scholastic, you have probably spoken to me at some point over the years, as all our dealings are with the U.S. Now and again I hear complaints (some tend to take it out on me) that they have had nothing but problems, others had only good experiences, and others still will either curse me out or worse, have their children do it(Recently talked to a man who put his 3yr old on the phone and had him say F*** you over and over, shameful actually) So I just wondered about people's opinons in general.

and they say tv and video games are messing up the children

you'd be shocked if you heard some of the things that parents get their children to do on the phone, or what the parents themselves do. makes you wonder if some people need a course in phone etiquette, lol. it's not hard to just say "not interested" and hang up. when I first started this job, people were always so happy to hear from scholastic, but over the years, it seems as though more and more people are having problems with the company. I've been wondering why, and what's changed with the company to make people behave this way, which is another reason I was trying to get some feedback. it makes it easier to help the costumers so they'd be happy, as well as make my job a little less stressful.

As for you not getting getting any phone calls Faerieglamour, I am seriously and completely surprised, lol. maybe you never put your number down when you ordered anything.

I dont think its scholastic as the company. People just have a very negative feeling towards phone calls used to find more business.

I have a favorable view of Scholastic. Partly because my college friend is a cartoonist/author and Scholastic is her publisher. Partly because I enjoy the Harry Potter series. Partly because they sponsored book fairs when my son was younger and I was able to get good deals on books.
