Seagate Barracuda 160GB Internal Hard Drive for $19.99 After Pricematch / Rebate

CompUSA has a great deal on the Seagate Barracuda 160GB hard drive. Some managers may not accept the pricematch.

Pricegrabber Price : $100 ~ $160 Shipped

1. Print out Walmart's page showing the hard drive for $98.88
2. Go to your local Compusa.
3. Find the ST3160023A-RK ( Harddrive Price : $119.99 )
4. Rebate Price : -$80.00 ( Will print out at cash register )
Final Price : $19.99

Suggestion: it would be very helpful to know if these various hard drive deals are INTERNAL or EXTERNAL. Perhaps that info could be put in the header.

Generally speaking, if the drive is external it will surely be in the subject. If its not stated, assume its internal.

serial or parallel?

In the WalMart ad, the heading says "ATA". The description says "Serial ATA". There are two pictures: one of an ATA (apparently parallel ATA) drive, the other is of a serial ATA drive. Presumably they're both on sale, but I don't actually know.

the one from wal-mart is Serial ATA and the one from compusa is Ultra ATA
i think that will be YMMV.

The ad listed says Serial ATA, but the picture and the model number correspond to Ultra ATA. I was able to get CompUSA to match the price for the UltraATA, so I got the deal for $18.88 after I get the rebates back.

yes!

Good job maybe I'll try

I tried in MN no luck

Here i tried in local Compusa..they do not price match.

If you have a local Walmart a lot of times you can find the HD deal straight up in the store so if they don't price match internet sites that may still work. If your local compusa doesn't price match at all it's too bad but it's still a good deal.

CompUSA came through!

CompUSA called Wallmart and matched the deal, with tax came to 105 less 80 is a 160 gig for $25.

Great deal

Note..

here in MN also they called walmart and price match..but they said the mail in Rebate would not be valid..since the price match..So I returned the product..
bad luck.. :(

Scammed

Sona,

Too bad you took the drive back. Sounds like the CompUSA salesperson scammed you. I am 99.99% sure the rebate would have been valid. I've done this with places like Roxio. With all the rebates and deals they offer I got Easy Media Creator 7.5 for free when they emailed me an offer to download it for $29.95 then I used their $30.00 rebate offer on the already discounted download price. Worked like a charm :D

I had no problem pricematching the Seagate HD to Walmart. Most people (including the Comp USA clerk) have said that all 3 rebates should be valid with the pricematch. The rebate receipts don't say a word about pricematching or a particular purchase price, so logically there should be no problem. However, I've found that logic often doesn't work in the real world. Nevertheless, the majority opinion seems to be the rebates should be valid, so I will send in the rebates with the pricematched receipt and hope it doesn't turn into a feud with the rebate company. I don't have enough experience with the Niagara Falls rebate center to know if they like to deny rebates or not.

Also, Comp USA had Seagate HDs made in Thailand or China. I had no idea which country (if either) would make a better quality drive. Any opinions on that?

Don't Give Up on Rebate

One thing to know about rebates: Some rebate companies like to deny your claim for some non-existent reason like missing UPC or missing Original Receipt or something like that. Don't buy it!! Contact them by phone (if possible). They WILL reinstate your rebate. They figure they can save a few bucks because more people than ever are using rebates the way they are supposed to be used. These companies get scared and try to save a few bucks. The rebate company for Roxio did this to me twice, once for a $50.00 rebate and more recently for the $30.00 rebate I mentioned earlier. I did get both rebates after I called.

Good Luck!
